Weapon Carrier’s Protection Spell

This spell is to protect the carrier of the weapon, not the weapon itself, but the spell is placed on the weapon. Wile this spell is intended to enchant a weapon used to protect your home and homeland, it can be used by hunters, police officers, soldiers, or other people who wield weapons.

What you’ll need:

  • Three jars or bottles, with lids
  • The weapon you wish to enchant
  • Sanitized athame or blood drawing method

With your jars or bottles in hand, go to three different water sources closest to your home or the area you protect. These could be lakes, park ponds, streams, rivers, the ocean, etc. It can also be rainwater! You can also think man-produced water sources, such as tap water, swimming pool, park fountains, etc.

Once you have your water, dip a clean white cloth into each of the waters and wipe it across the weapon, essentially washing it. While doing this, concentrate on protecting the carrier of the weapon and the area you wish to protect. So if you’re the one who wields the weapon and you’re protecting your home, make sure to envision yourself being protected by the weapon from all harm. You can chant or speak your wishes aloud, if you prefer that method of enchantment.

Once the weapon has been enchanted and bathed, place a drop of blood on the weapon and say,

“With my blood, I empower this weapon,

The wielder of this weapon is protect from all harm,

The land protected will guard and protect their own.

With my blood, this spell is sealed.”

Wipe the blood off and safely store the weapon until needed.

Notes:

If you have a sacred or magical number that is more relevant to you, collect a sample of water from that number of water sources.

The weapon’s protection will work best if kept in the same area the waters were collected in. However, that won’t stop the protection from working at all. It’ll work fine without being in that area – or carried by the enchanter themselves.

Protection Cloaking Spell

This is a quick spell that can be used by anyone who needs protection right now.  This verbal spell is more for people who need to hide or not be seen. It can be placed on a building or group of people, you just need to spend more energy to make it so.

Obviously, if you’re in some sort of danger, immediately remove yourself from that situation and get help. You should always back up your magic with practical actions too, if possible.

What to do:

Gather your energy around you and let it cover you entirely in one smooth swath. Like throwing a blanket over your head to cover your entire body. The energy should settle a bit heavy and warm over your body, but your results may vary. You may feel a bit sleepy or drained but push through to finish the spell.

As the energy settles, say,

“I am protected from all harm,

I am safe here.

I am unseen by all who may hurt me.

I am hidden from all harm.”

Notes:

Make sure you are using practical and mundane methods of keeping safe!

Child Protection Spell

This is a spell for protecting children and it’s also a threshold spell.

Specifically, this spell has been designed and relying upon there being a physical threshold into the child’s domain (their bedroom or playroom, for example). This space can be shared by children, but ideally isn’t shared by an adult. An adult may enter the space, but they don’t spend a considerable amount of time there by themselves doing much more than chores or what-have-you.

For the purposes of this spell, the word “threshold” to mean the opening you use to enter the room. In actual architecture, the “threshold” is the bottom piece of the door that runs along the floor, hiding the gaps between flooring, adding stability to the door, and helping block out the elements. Usually, this is a door’s wooden framing or casement around it. It might be known to you as a doorway, door jamb, or lintel (which is actually a specific part of a door’s framing). But this spell doesn’t actually require the room to have a door frame or door, just an opening that separates the child’s room from the rest of the living space.

What you’ll need:

  • Cleansing water
  • Moon water
  • Sun water
  • Sea salt water (see notes)

First, wash down and clean the doorway and door of the child’s room with your preferred cleaning agent that’s safe for that surface.

You’ll also want to test in an inconspicuous area whether or not the waters we use in this spell can damage or stain the paint or varnish on the threshold.

Wipe down the threshold again with a cleansing water. You can also use smoke cleansing or sound cleansing, if you prefer or add to the cleansing procedure. Your choice here.

In a clean jar or bowl, mix together the sun and moon water. Stir the waters together and say,

"This child is protected by sunlight.
This child is protected by moonlight.
This child is blessed by the sun and moon,
This child is protected under their watchful eye,
Guarded and nurtured by their gentle, parental eye."

Now add in the salt water to the bowl.

"Protected by salt and water, this child is safe from all harm."

Now wash the threshold with the water. You can repeat the verbal clause of the spell again as you wash the threshold, if you like.

Every time the child goes through the threshold, they will receive protection. Renew annually or after cleaning or repainting the area.

Notes:

  • “Child” can be swapped for “children”. It can also be used for anyone, regardless of age, so long as you consider updating the wording as needed.
  • Sea salt water can be water harvested from the ocean then purified to remove debris or you can dissolve sea salt in regular water and use that.
  • If you do use the ocean water, you can add a line of the child being protected by the ocean too.
  • For varnish cleansing water, 1 cup water and a drop or two or lemon essential oil. Enchant for cleansing while you mix the water. Dry completely after washing. Remember to test in a inconspicuous area first.
  • For painted walls or wood cleansing water, 3 cups water and half a spoonful of white vinegar. Let air until the vinegar scent has dissipated and add a drop or two of rosemary or sage infused water . Enchant for cleansing while you mix the water. Dry completely after washing. Remember to test in a inconspicuous area first.
  • Moon water is water that is infused by moonlight. Set a covered jar of water under the light of a full moon for at least an hour.
  • Sun water is water that is infused by sunlight. Set a covered jar of water in a sunny spot on a very bright, sunny day for at least an hour.
wash the doorway of the child's room with a surface safe cleaning agent and surface safe cleansing water.

In a clean bowl, mix together sun water and moon water. Stir and say,

"This child is protected by sunlight.
This child is protected by moonlight.
This child is blessed by the sun and moon,
This child is protected under their watchful eye,
Guarded and nurtured by their gentle, parental eye."

Now add in sea salt water and stir.

"Protected by salt and water, this child is safe from all harm."

Now wash the doorway with the mixed water. Repeat the above phrases as you wash it.

Every time the child goes through the doorway, they're granted protection.

Protection Witch Bottle

A witch bottle is a jar spell. Simple, right? Typically, they’re protection spells, but sometimes they’re curses. There’s actually quite a history attached to them and many have been recovered during renovation and archaeological excavations. It’s a pretty neat topic to research, if you’re interested in such things.

This one is simple to make but will provide powerful protection to the property you live on. If you move, be sure to take it with you! This isn’t the kind of spell to be leaving around.

What you’ll need:

  • A jar or bottle with lid, ideally glass or ceramic (see notes)
  • Salt (your choice of what kind)
  • Three pins or needles
  • Three nails
  • Three screws
  • Three sticks or bark from one of the following: juniper, oak, rowan, hawthorn, hemlock, hazel, cedar, ash or birch (Alternatively, you can use one stick or piece of bark from three of the choices available)
  • Three flowers from one of the following: rose, gardenia, hellebore, oleander, jasmine, iris, hyssop, cornflower, or geranium. (Alternatively, you can use one flower from three of the choices available)
  • Three herb sprigs from one of the following: rosemary, rue, dill, nettle, angelica, vervain, lavender, garlic, or mugwort. (Alternatively, you can use one herb sprig from three of the choices available)
  • Three parts of you: A lock of your hair, drop of your blood, fingernail cuttings, piece of your skin, your urine, etc.
  • Sealing wax or candle (any color)

First, prep your jar and make sure it’s as clean and dry as possible.

Next, gather up your metal ingredients and plant ingredients and place them inside. While you do this, you should say, speak, or think about what you’re protecting and what you’re protecting it from.

Fill the jar the rest of the way with salt, leaving enough room for the last ingredients.

Place the chosen bits of yourself inside the jar and seal it with the sealing wax or drip enough wax to seal the jar entirely.

Now, bury next to your home, preferably the front door. You can alternatively store it in the basement, attic, or the back of a closet.

Notes:

  • The jar or bottle is usually made with glass because that’s easy to acquire – just wash and air a pickle or jam jar. I personally prefer unglazed ceramic, but stone has also been used. Metal has been used but I don’t readily recommend it because it’s often painted with harmful chemicals. Plastic, silicon, or rubber is not recommended. People say this is because it’s a manmade material so it doesn’t possess the same energy or whatever. I don’t recommend it because it doesn’t break down easily or if it does, it released the innards of the jar to the world – which in this spell would be particularly harmful given the salt quantity.
  • You can absolutely choose other herbs, flowers, or trees here. Pick whatever protection based flora works for you.
  • When it comes to burying glass items or items with lots of salt in it, I can’t really recommend burying it in the ground. A good middle ground is to dig a large hole where you want to place the spell and bury a clay pot with a lid in that space. Place the witch bottle in that pot and you’ll have extra protection in case something goes wrong. You can also easily uncover the pot and replace or add additional protections down the road.

Sun’s Protection Spell

This is a very simple protection verbal spell and can even be cast on the go. Since this is a solar powered spell, it’ll work best on sunny, warm days.

What you’ll need:

  • A bright sunny day
  • Sun water

Collect your sun water and smear some on your forehead. You can also anoint your joints or even dab the water like perfume. You don’t need a lot. Just enough to feel it.

Stand under a bright beam of sunlight and envision being bathed in the light. The light should seep into your skin, turning you fire-like, hot and shimmering so nothing can touch you.

Really take a few minutes to soak in that sunlight. Feel the warmth of it on your skin and so forth.

When you’re ready, say or think the following,

“Sunlight protect my heart,

Protect my flesh,

Guide my bones,

Illuminate my way.

Burn all those who would cause me harm.”

Note:

  • You may be harnessing a sunbeam for protection, but don’t forget to wear sunscreen and so forth against the sun’s rays.

Moving? Magical “First Ins” – What to Bring Into Your New Home First

Moving? Magical "First Ins" - What you need to bring into you new home first for it's best magical start | thiscrookedcrown.com
Moving? Magical “First Ins” – What you need to bring into you new home first for it’s best magical start | thiscrookedcrown.com

There’s a common tradition that the first things you bring into your new home should be representative of what you want the home to generate and hold, as well as good luck and abundance.

I love this tradition and have used it each time I’ve moved or entered a newly renovated space. I don’t move often, but when I do, I make sure to do this.

However, it’s a bit more tricky than the folklore sounds. The reality is that you might go in and out of your future home half a dozen times before you “move in”. If you’re buying a house there’s open houses, showings, house inspections, house appraisals, and final walkthroughs. Never mind any times where you have the keys but haven’t moved in yet so you can clean or whatever. So the first time through the door might not actually be the first time.

When to move in varies too. Thursdays on the waxing moon is considered ideal, but a new moon is also good. (However, Thursday is considered to be a more expensive day to move, especially if hiring movers.) Some people say Fridays and Saturdays are terrible days to move because you won’t settle in the home, but others say it’s auspicious. Rainy days are an absolute no-go, but as someone who’s moved in heat waves and snow, all I can say is avoid extreme weather conditions if possible. Finally, you should finish moving before sunset for the best of luck (and also for safety reasons, I imagine.)

For me, I do this moving ritual in stages. Here’s my routine:

Phase One – Cleanse and Clean

Before I move in, I take a few hours to walk through the home and energetically cleanse it. I do it with sounds, energy, incense, magic powders, and enchanted water.

Then I clean the space, even if it’s been cleaned previously. Kitchen, bathroom, floors, doorknobs, light switches, keys get washed.

Now, obviously I have to bring in stuff to do all that with. Plus, I’ll haul in my purse, water, probably some sort of chair, snacks, etc. This phase takes a while and I might not be the only one there.

If I have to do any work on the place in question, this is the time to do it. Painting, changing door locks, new light fixtures or appliances should be done now.

Tasks I consider at this time are:

Light a fire in any fireplaces to drive out the darkness and warm the home (check the flue first!)

Fennel stuffed into keyholes keeps out malicious witches and other maliciousness beings. You can also hang the fennel over the door.

Paint the ceiling of the porch pale blue to ward off spirits

Air out all closed / contained spaces, such as crawl spaces, basements, closets, cupboards, etc. Even better, make sure light enters each of these spaces.

Open an east facing window to help light, air, sunrise, and energy move. Close it at sunset.

Ring bells to clear the air and shift energy

Scattering rice and coins across the floor comes from specific cultural traditions (Philippines). Sprinkle blessing powder or moon water or some other type of positive energy bringing across the floor and in each corner of the house.

Go out the same door you came in through.

Basic warding spells to keep everything out if you’re going to come back another day before officially moving in.

Phase Two – First Ins

I take the time to be the first one in. This might mean I go to the new place early and bring the stuff in or I might immediately do it right after cleansing and cleaning. What I bring in first varies entirely on what I feel like the space needs. The more permanent the stay, the more stuff I bring.

  • Bread
  • Rice
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Books
  • Honey
  • Candles
  • Wine or chosen alcohol
  • New broom
  • Handful of coins and money (not debit or credit card)
  • Citrus fruit and/or any fruit (a citrus or fruit plant works too). I like bringing oranges and strawberries, but depending on what you want to introduce to your home, pick accordingly.
  • Basil plant or some other sort of kitchen herby plant associated with luck and money
  • Fresh cut flowers
  • Icons of luck such as clovers, fish, other animals, horseshoes, stars, acorns, turtles,
  • Crystals and stones
  • Letting a cat walk through the door first should bring good fortune – and the cat may become the target of any ill will.  (Pets should be introduced to a new environment slowly anyway, so when I bring my cat with me while I’m working in the new home and then put her where ever she’s going to be for the furniture moving bit.)

Things to NOT bring with you the first time you’re ritually entering the home.

Bring these in a bit later. You probably have a car load of stuff to carry in anyway, so bring this stuff in the next time or whatever.)

  • Your old broom or stick mop (should be left at old place or tossed out)
  • Ritual brooms (doesn’t count to the throw away rule unless you feel like they do)
  • Your mail
  • Credit cards or anything with debt attached to it.
  • Vacuums, roombas, swiffer style mops, and similar devices (especially if they haven’t been both ritually and mundanely cleaned.)
  • Mattresses or pillows (especially if they haven’t been ritually cleaned)

In your second load of stuff to bring in, I’d recommend:

  • Toilet paper
  • Cleaning supplies (all purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, scrub brushes, etc)
  • Disinfectant
  • Paper towels or kitchen towels
  • Dish sponge or cloths
  • Trash bags
  • Dust pan for the broom (after it’s been cleaned and cleanse)
  • Duster
  • Vacuums, roombas, etc.
  • Hand soap
  • Laundry detergent and dryer sheets
  • Air fresheners of some kind
  • Step ladder
  • Light bulbs
  • Measuring tape
  • First aid kit including disinfectant and bandages
  • Phone charger
  • Pen and paper and permanent marker
  • Tool kit
  • Scissors
  • Shower liner
  • Duct tape
  • Flashlight / lantern
  • Bucket
  • Snacks and drinks that don’t require utensils or dishes
  • Your paperwork and any documents or items that you didn’t bring in before (ie, credit cards)
  • Some sort of pain management for the soreness or headache that you almost certainly will have

Your third load is recommended to be these items, especially if you’re spending the night at the new place.

  • Spare clothes
  • Pajamas
  • Clothes for the next day
  • Toiletries
  • Bedding
  • Air mattress or similar (if furniture is not in place)
  • Bath towels
  • Something to do if the internet isn’t in place (board game, movie on laptop or TV, book, etc)
  • Coffee maker, mugs, coffee items
  • Pet food and accessories
  • Cups, plates, and utensils (one set for each person)
  • Folding table and chairs
  • Food for breakfast or a solid plan for getting food in the morning
  • Take out menus for dinner or solid plans for dinner
  • Bottle of wine or appropriate beverage with a bottle opener
  • Pot to cook in

Tasks to do at this time:

  • Open an east facing window and keep it open for the duration of the move, especially if you’re using movers. Close it when everyone but the household residents have left
  • Pick a single room and designate it as the dumping ground for random boxes. Ideally, this should be a room that is out of the way and doesn’t have a lot of large furniture in it or that furniture should go in first.
  • Place large furniture pieces first and worry about the smaller stuff that doesn’t require two people to lift and move later.
  • Pour a libation or make an offering to the spirits of the land, the house, or your deities are appropriate. It don’t need to be fancy, it just needs to be.

Phase Three – Settling In

First things first, do a light cleansing to clear out any negative emotions that rose during the move.

  • Put away your kitchen and bathroom stuff first, then work on the bedrooms. Don’t try to fully unpack. Instead, get stuff in place that needs to be in place to feel like more comfortable. Then go room by room.
  • Keep a running list on the fridge on tasks that need to be done. A loose doorknob, a window that doesn’t open or close right, a piece of furniture that got damaged in the move, etc. This helps you remember to do those tasks when you get a chance as you unpack.
  • Put a box aside to put random things you’re going to donate. You always find stuff that you don’t really want, need, or like while unpacking and having a box set up just for that kind of thing is extremely helpful.
  • Invoke a guardian spirit or servitor to protect your new home. Start working with the local land spirits and the spirit of the home itself.
  • A housewarming party is a great way of bringing life, laughter, and abundance into the home. That might not be on the docket right now, given the pandemic, but it’s something to consider for the future.

This is something that will be individualized to your needs and specific move. I was still moving around kitchen drawers and unpacking boxes three months after moving into our new house. It happens. Just go with the flow as much as possible while keeping up a positive attitude. It can do wonders.

Scarecrow Harvest Protection Spell

Anyone who grows a garden has struggled with pests and thieves. It could be squirrels digging up your plants, birds plucking your berries, rabbits nibbling on the cabbage, deer grazing on your flowers, neighbors stealing your dear pumpkins, or spirits eating the essence of the peppers. (Is that last one a problem for other people or just me?)

This spell is is best used for growing rows of plants in the ground, but it can be used even in a small pot.

What you’ll need:

  • A scarecrow vessel (see below)
  • Soil from the plants you’re protecting (see below)
  • Juniper leaf
  • Garlic clove
  • Onion
  • Rose petals
  • Rose thorns
  • Rosemary
  • Water (see notes)

First, make or buy a scarecrow. Ideally, the scarecrow would be made of juniper, but it can be anything. It doesn’t even have to be a scarecrow. It could be a garden statue or pinwheel, but scarecrows (and similar) do help keep pets away in a mundane fashion.

Next, make a potion. In a large jar, bowl, pot, or cauldron, fill it up halfway with water. Put the juniper leaves, garlic, onion, rose petals, rose thorns, and rosemary in it. As you put them in, think or say out loud what you want to protect and what you want to protect it from.

Cover the jar and let it sit for twenty-four hours. It may be best to put it outside in the garden if you can. It may not smell great.

Alternatively, you can heat the water if you want and put the juniper leaves, garlic, onion, rose, and rosemary in it. Remember to enchant the water as you work. Let it sit and steep for an hour.

When the potion is done, strain out the ingredients and save the water. You can toss the used ingredients in your compost pile or bury them outside of your garden space.

Next go to each corner of your garden plot and collect a bit of soil. If you’re using a round plot or a pot, just take a bit of soil from the edge of the circle.

Once you have the soil, rub it over the scarecrow. Then wash the soil away with half of the potion. Use only the half of the remaining half, sprinkle a bit in the places you took the soil from.

Now place the scarecrow where you want it to go and use the last of the potion to sprinkle over it. Tell the scarecrow that you want it to protect the garden.

Notes:

  • The water can be any kind. Water from whatever source you water your plants from is good. Water purified by the sun or the moon (sun or moon water) or holy or sacred water is also great.

7 Spells to Cast When Protesting

What words can I say that haven’t already been said? Black lives matter. If you’re more outraged about property damage than human lives, then you have your priorities wrong and you’re a shitty person. People do not need to “get over” the egregious murder of another person, especially at the hands of authority figures. Authority figures are suppose to be there to protect and promote peace – so why are they armed as they are? These are simple, basic human rights. It shouldn’t even need to be said – it should be implicitly understood and accepted, not debated.

Right now, I’m spending my time listening. I’m protesting and addressing racism within my family and friends and reminding people to be compassionate. People need to put aside their own uncomfortable or defensive feelings to empathize and listen to what black people are saying. But most of all, I’m supporting and listening the best way I can.

Remember to donate! George Floyd Memorial Fund. Black Visions Collective. Reclaim the Block. Bail funds for protesters.

Here’s some spells that require nothing. They can be cast on the fly, in a moment’s notice. They don’t require a specific words to be said or anything like that. They’re subtle, which is exactly what you need when you’re trying to save yourself and others. I’ve tested them myself, so I hope they work well for everyone else.

Invisibility glamour

This spell is simple. Essentially, you’re reducing your visibility to whoever is looking. They’ll see you, but not notice you. It’s like when you’re looking for your keys and they’re right next to your cup of coffee. It’s probably not going to stop someone from looking for you if you just punched them in the head, but it will keep people from focusing or staring too hard at you.

To cast the glamour, you need to pick the best way to cast it. Either you need to stand very still or move at a consistent, steady pace. So sit in a chair, stand in a corner or along a wall, hide behind a car, etc. Or you can walk at a steady pace matching the people walking around you in a crowd.

Now take a deep breath and think or whisper “You do not see me. No one sees me. I’m not here. Keep moving. You do not see me.” The phrasing doesn’t have to be exact. Say whatever feels right.

As you do this, pull your energy around you, like pulling a blanket closer to you and then over your head. Hold onto that as you move steadily and quietly to attend to you business.

This spell is best used when you need to get out a situation where you’re not being directly confronted, but feel unsafe. It’s also useful when you just want to go for a walk and don’t want people to bother you.

I’ve explained this spell in more detail here.

Protection barrier

This is a magic circle, so if you’re familiar with those, then you’ve already got this down pat. For those of you who aren’t great at magic circles, then it’s time to put those video game skills and TV watching hours to use.

Imagine yourself (and others) in a circle of energy. Fire is a common usage, but so it bright light. I tend to do light, wind, or water because those resonate well with me. You can swath yourself in darkness or whatever works best for you. Lean on your elemental associations and magical strengths here. If you do a lot of herbal work, picture plants or trees in front of you. Test out which methods work best for you.

If you’re not great at this sort of thing, then just pick something from a video game or TV show. Channel someone from The Last Avatar or pick your favorite protection spell from a video game and use it.

When you do your imagining, push your energy out from you to form a circle, bubble, or shield around you and whatever you’re protecting. This is energy manipulation, so brush up on that if it’s not something you’re great at.

This will not stop bullets, but I’ve seen people pause, hesitate, or stagger when crossing a barrier. That might give you enough time to run away. Mostly, it should be used when you’re already marching or in a stationary position, like at a protest.

Throwing Sigils

So this is kind of advanced, but it’s one of the number one ways I use spells in the field.

First you need to know how to make sigils. For this spell, create a sigil that keeps people away. Now simplify that sigil if you need to. It has to be easy to remember.

Now gather your energy into one hand and trace the sigil in the air. You can also trace the sigil with your foot, if that’s better for you. As you do this, speak or think your intent clearly.

With your energy still in your hand, push your sigil forward towards your target.

You can also use traditional symbols for this spell, such as a banishing pentagram. This can be done with any kind of spell or sigil, you just have to be able to remember and write the symbol or sigil clearly.

Energy healing

Healing spells are never meant to replace medical assistance, but it won’t hurt to cast a healing spell while you’re waiting for a medic to look at the injured person.

Place your hand over the injury, if possible. If that isn’t possible, put a hand on their back, belly, or head. You can technically touch them anywhere, but their core and head works best. Remember to ask their consent to be touched!

Push your energy into them gently. Focus on being calm and soothing the injury. Let the energy flow steadily and calmly, like the running of a creek.

If they’re bleeding, focus the energy towards the open wound and staunching that blood flow, like the energy forms an invisible barrier between the skin and the exterior of the body.

You can also temper the energy with cooling agents, if the person feels hot or feverish. Or heat up that energy when someone is cold.

If you’re working to flush out contamination, like pepper spray, focus on cooling energy and make sure you’re providing lots of clear water to wash their eyes and skin without getting contaminated yourself (and make sure you remove contaminated clothing).

Meet Up Spell

Lost your crew and phone is dead? Had to do a runner while protesting and not sure if it’s safe to text the others? This spell can help.

Get yourself to a safe location and send up an energy flare into the sky. To do this, sit for a moment and think of the people you want to meet up with. Use their names, if possible, but if not, think of their faces. Then push your energy up into the sky with a concentrated intention of “I am here” and “come find me”.

You can also enchant chalk or spray paint with the same idea. Push the energy into the chalk or paint rather than up into the sky and use it to mark the location or direction you went in. Use an agreed upon code or location to help yourself even more.

I’m staying here!

To make sure that no one moves you from your spot, take a strong stance and press into all the corners of your feet. Push your energy down, like planting roots.

You can double-down on this spell by also using your favorite grounding technique or mountain meditation, really focusing on becoming hard and difficult to move.

Binding hex

Point at the target then draw an X across their body and point down to the ground. Focus to keep them in one place and unable to do anything.

You can use a sigil instead of an X for this exact purpose, if you’d like.

Practical tips: Know your rights. Remember to wear good shoes, have an exit strategy, and wear a mask (which you should be doing anyway, because coronavirus is still a thing.) Charge your phone and maybe take a moment to look up what lawyers are offering to represent protesters then write that down somewhere that is not your phone (in case it’s lost or broken). Bringing some medical supplies and water is also a great idea. Just… prepare yourself for things to go poorly.

Please stay safe out there! Protect yourself and protect others. Stand for what’s right.

Sunshine Protection

This is a general all-purpose protection spell. It can be cast to keep spirits out, to lessen the chances of creeps talking to you, and other general helpful protection things.

Quick verbal charms are some of my personal favorite spells. I use them pretty much daily in my own practice. This is one I wrote specifically for my own use. It’s best used on bright, sunny days where the light feels strong and warm.

This is both a targeted and location based spell. When you cast it, you’re essentially making a magic circle. Anything inside the circle, including the land itself, will also be enchanted. So that piece of land, everything you’re wearing and carrying (especially whatever the sunlight touches), as well as yourself will carry the protection spell.

It also has something of a side effect – it can boost confidence, mood, and physical health for a bit. Essentially, you’ll feel better, lighter, and stronger once the spell’s in place – but it only works for a short time.

This spell isn’t intended for lengthy protection. It’s powerful, but it’s mostly geared towards needing that extra bit of protection on the go. So if you’re about to head into a job interview or on a date, this is a great spell to choose. It usually lasts as long as the sunlight does (although, there is some lingering protection affect that go one for something like 12-20 hours after the spell’s cast).

What you’ll need:

  • Sunlight

Stand in the sunlight, feet firmly planted and about shoulder width apart. You should be at least an arm’s distance from everyone else.

Tip your head slightly up, so you feel the sunlight on your face, but not so upwards that you can’t see in front of you. Spread your arms out wide in a fast but confidence motion, holding them there for the length of this spell.

Envision yourself being bathed in the warm sunlight. If vision work isn’t for you, know that you’re already in the sunlight, so just focus on feeling the warmth of the sun on your face.

Now say the following:

I embody the sun

Touch me and you shall burn.

My power is magnified

Be gone all that would harm me,

You are denied.

Take a moment to let the sun soak into you, then go about your day.

This spell can be subtly done while stretching.

Foundation Stone Spell

This is a spell designed to help protect them home in an active manner. When done, this spell will automatically absorb negative energy without you having to touch a thing. There is some spell maintenance, but otherwise, this spell will work on its own.

The idea behind this spell is the concept of cornerstones within the foundation of a house. Historically, these stones were carefully chosen and often had folkloric or even magical implications. You’ll probably need to dive a bit into gem and crystal lore to find the right stone or stones for you.

There’s two ways to do this spell and both are outlined below. The spell works the nearly the same for both, so pick whichever fits your style best.

Method One – One Stone

Ingredients

  • A stone selected from your property
  • A quiet yet obvious place to put it
  • Purified or blessed water (see notes)

First, select your stone. This should be a fairly large size stone (fist sized) and dug up from your property. You can also use a loose brick or hunk of cement that comes from your house itself.

Wash the stone with purified water and make sure as you do, you think soft, loving thoughts. You can think of how safe you want your home to be, how protected, how prosperous, or how full of love. But the energy you put into that stone should be soft and loving. So instead of thinking “I want to be debt-free” instead focus on “my home is full of abundance”. It may be a good idea to write down these softer thoughts ahead of time, if you aren’t good at thinking on your feet.

Once the stone is washed, carry it throughout the house, like you would a guest you’re showing your home to. Take it to each room and space, announce what that room is, and move on. Go to every space, even the ones you wouldn’t show a guest, like a boiler room, the attic, or garage. Remember to keep those thoughts and energy soft and loving. This stone is a close friend you’re happy to show your home so keep that in mind as you move.

If the stone isn’t dry by the time you finish your tour, let it dry somewhere prominent in your home. The kitchen counter or table is a good choice, but you can select wherever. It should be a relatively busy area, where people in your home pass through the space and live their lives.

After the stone is dry, go ahead and find a nice place for the stone to live. Ideally, this should be a bookshelf or somewhere similar. You can put it somewhere quieter, but I find that if you pass the stone more often and see it, the spell’s maintenance stays on track. It tends to get forgotten otherwise.

To maintain the spell, make sure to dust and wash the stone regularly in purified water. If you do any remodeling or changes in the house (such as changing the purpose of a room or repainting it) take the stone through the walk-through tour again.

Method Two – Many Stones

Ingredients:

  • Four stones of grounding
  • As many stones of protection as you have doors and windows (see notes)
  • As many stones of healing and health as members of your household (include pets)
  • As many stones of love as members of your household (including pets), plus one
  • A stone for prosperity and/or abundance
  • A stone for wealth
  • A stone for peace and harmony
  • Any other stones for purposes you’d like to have in your home

This is going to entirely depend on what stones you’d like best. Folklore for stones, gems, and crystals can vary greatly, so you might not select something that someone else would. Doubling up meanings of your stone selections is also a good idea, so the stones work together harmoniously.

The nice part about this method is that you can add new stones as needed. However, these stones have to work in concert to get the same power as the singular stone method – and it can be a little noisy or confusing when you’re trying to work with all the stones at once.

My tip here is to pick small stones. In fact, I’d recommend getting a small glass vase or something similar and filling the container with the stones. The stones would all be safe in one space, working together, plus they can look rather beautiful in this fashion.

For this spell, I might choose salt, obsidian, or black tourmaline for grounding. Banded agate, malachite, or quartz crystal for protection. I’d probably pick bloodstone, amethyst, and jade for health and healing. For love I might pick rose quartz, moonstone, or pink and/or watermelon. tourmaline. For prosperity and wealth, I’d select peridot, topaz, and aventurine. Aquamarine, sardonyx, selenite for peace and harmony. Other stones might be onyx for defensive reasons or carnelian for courage. Those are just examples. You’ll probably have other choices for your own needs.

Once you’ve collected your stones, purify your stones with water. Here you have to be careful, because some of the stones you have may not react well with water, especially if the water is infused in some way. Spend a little time googling to see what may damage your stones.

Once you’ve cleaned and purified the stones, follow the steps outlined in method one. Here the spell remains the same, just keep all the stones together and work slowly to make sure the energies in the stones get along. Not unlike how you might manage a group of friends at a get-together, really. Once you’ve done your tour with the stones, put them in the same place together.

Spell maintenance is also the same. Clean and dust them as needed, making sure to not forget about the stones themselves.

Notes:

  • Here purified or blessed water is whatever kind of water that feels purified or blessed to you. It can be tap water you’ve dedicated to a deity or it can be water you’ve sought out at a sparkling spring and filtered yourself. It can be moon water or holy water. This is where your particular brand of magic can come into play, so adapt at will.
  • When it comes to selecting the number of protection stones, what you’re doing is selecting stones to protect against particular doorways, pathways, and so on. You can just protect the doorways and skip the windows, you can protect against doors, windows, drains, chimneys, and mirrors. How many or how few you select to protect is up to you. Your house may have two doors and twelve windows, so you might have fourteen stones. If that seems like a lot (and it is) then consider dropping the amount of pathways you’re protecting.
