Ever have dreams keep waking you up at night? Not just nightmares, but dreams that were stressful or so hectic that you feel exhausted in the morning? Or have you had such poor sleep and you think it might be dreams or nightmares causing it, even if you don’t remember the dreams in your waking hours?
When dreams, especially unwanted dreams, cause problems, it can be a difficult battle. This jar can help mitigate that. It can also be used to bring about good dreams even if you aren’t struggling against bad dreams. It’s an excellent way of just having a peaceful night’s sleep.
What you’ll need:
Mugwort
Lavender
Jasmine
Rose
Rosemary
Glass jar with lid or cork
Candle or sealing wax in blue or light purple
Cleanse your glass jar. Begin to heat your candle or sealing wax.
Layer your herbs in the jar in any pattern you find pleasing. As you add each in, think of the good, peaceful dreams you wish to have. You may speak aloud or simply think it.
Put the jar’s lid on top. The candle or sealing wax should be ready now. Pour it over your jar lid and say,
"Good dreams fill this jar
Nightmares are barred
I will sleep peacefully all night long."
Let the wax harden. Place the jar beside or under your bed.
This healing spell is useful for illnesses and diseases but can be tricky to procure the ingredients. While seeking medical attention when feeling ill is always recommended, sometimes you need just a little boost in healing.
What you’ll need:
Bezoar or a regular garden or roadside rock
Powdered horn or piece of cattle bone
Iron
Rosemary
Basil
Coffee
Peppermint and/or feverfew if feverish or cayenne pepper / paprika and cinnamon if chilled.
Bowl, dish, or disposable cloth
Get your dish, bowl, or disposable cloth. Sprinkle the herbs and coffee at the bottom of the dish. Place in the iron.
Now pick up your bezoar or garden rock. Holding it over the dish, sprinkle the powdered horn over bezoar / rock. If you’re using a cattle bone, just pass the bone over, around, and under the bezoar / rock. While doing this, think of how this rock will be able to heal and absorb the illnesses or diseases it comes into contact with. Think of the illness or disease leaving the patient and going into the rock. Imagine that when this happens the rock will get full, heavy, and cold.
When you’re happy with your envisioning, place the bezoar / rock in bed with the patient. Usually under the pillow works but in between layers of a blanket would be good too. You could also hang it on the headboard or leave it on a bedside table very close to the patient. The most ideal way is to have the patient wear the stone but that’s not always possible or safe. Don’t put it under the patient. The bezoar / rock should be on the same level as the patient.
Place the dish of herbs, iron, and powdered horn / cattle bone under the patient’s bed. It should rest directly under the patient while they sleep but if that’s not possible, place it by the end of the bed. Leave it uncovered.
Change out the herbs and coffee as needed but don’t forget to add in the iron or the powdered horn / cattle bone.
Once the patient has started to recovered, you can remove the bezoar / rock and powdered horn or cattle bone. You can keep both to cast the spell again at a later date but eventually both will become too saturated with magic or illness and must be disposed of. To do this, take both far away to a crossroads, graveyard, or abandoned place and bury it.
You can keep the herbs under the bed until the patient has completely recovered. The herbs should be burned or buried in a different place than the bezoar / rock and powdered horn / cattle bone but similarly at a crossroad far away from the patient.
Notes:
This spell calls for a lot of hard to find ingredients. Substitutes are probably the way to go for most people here. Picking up a rock from beside the road, a died piece of bone from a steak, and a low-grade nail would work well in place of the above ingredients.
This spell is unique in that you can absolutely keep the bezoar / rock or powdered horn / cattle bone and use them as ritual healing tools. You would just need to deeply cleanse the illnesses and diseases from them. I don’t recommend this unless you’re really sure of your cleansing abilities.
The herbs and coffee can be used to divine the cause of the illness, the likelihood of the patient’s recovery, the details of the patient’s illness or recovery, and the patient’s immediate future. You can do this by lightly shaking the dish and looking for patterns and symbols, not unlike tea reading.
The iron piece can be kept and carried by the patient to guard against relapses.
Yes, this sounds like something from a DnD game or video game, but you’re going to actually make a real magic ring of abundance. A ring with a lot of historical occult meaning behind it, once you start looking at the aspects of the ring.
Because of the nature of the spell, you’ll spend more time seeking out the right ring for this spell than you will casting the spell. I will say that these rings are not expensive (as rings go) and are easy enough to locate with the power of the internet.
Check the notes after the spell!
What you need:
A gold, copper, or brass ring set or inlaid with aventurine or peridot
Brass bell
Acquire a gold ring set with aventurine or peridot. Copper or brass can be alternatively used.
Cleanse the ring using a brass bell. Then set the ring in a sunny window for a few hours to charge the ring with sunlight.
Once charged and ready, sit with the ring and let your energy flow into the ring. When you feel like you’ve pass on enough energy, say the following while focusing on positive thoughts of abundance.
"Ring of mine
You bring abundance to me
Ring of mine
You bring wealth and financial gain
You bring luck to everything
Ring of mine
You bring health and wellness
You bring success and joy
Ring of mine
You are abundance
And you bring endless abundance to me
So long as I wear thee."
Make sure to take the time to really infuse energy into the ring. You want to make sure that you’re increasing and drawing luck, financial wealth, happiness, success, good health, and all around abundance to you. Repeat the chant as often as you want and/or need to.
You should wear your enchanted ring on your dominate hand’s middle finger. However, any finger should do so long as you feel completely comfortable and empowered wearing it there.
Notes:
The brass bells are great if you have them but you can also just use the sound of a brass bell. Use the power of the internet to your advantage.
They do make solid aventurine rings. They are an excellent alternative to having one made of metal.
Ideally, the ring should be made of gold. Copper is a very close second choice while brass is a solid third choice.
Peridot is recognized as the gemstone name (and coloring) of olivine (also known as chrysolite). They are the same stone. However, in Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem & Metal Magic, he comments on a debate over whether that’s true and separates them into two different stones. That book was published in 1988. My copy comes from 2000 and still has Peridot and Olivine separated. Everywhere else (other books and the internet) consider them the same thing. I’ll leave this debate to you rock nerds, but I’ve used both and they feel identical to me.
My lightning fast google search revealed thousands of results for aventurine rings, with many of them set in gold metal. They average about $50 USD, with a electroplated versions going as low as $25. I even found a handful of vintage aventurine rings.
Peridot gold rings are more expensive, according to my google searches at about $80 USD and often hundreds of dollars more because it’s the August birthstone. However, there’s quite a lot more variation founds in peridot rings versus aventurine rings, so you may wish to buy a peridot if only to get something unique and meaningful to you.
This is a very simple healing spell using a candle, but sometimes simple is best.
What you need:
A candle
Target’s name
Get a candle and carve the person’s name into the wax.
You can additionally dress the candle to further reflect the person you want to heal. Anoint it in infused oil that smells like their perfume, sprinkle healing herbs over it, pick their favorite color, etc. Whatever you’d like to do to dress it. It’s not necessary, but it can help.
Light the candle and say,
“Candle, as you burn,
So burns away [target’s] sickness
As you grow weaker,
They grow stronger.
As you die,
They thrive.”
Now burn the candle for a set period of time every night until the candle can no longer be lit. Repeat the chant each time you lit it.
Maybe you meditate with the candle for ten minutes or you burn it while you talk to that person on the phone. It’s not about the length you burn the candle for so much as the consistency and dedicated time spent to the healing.
When the candle cannot be lit anymore, bury it in the ground. Alternatively, you can toss it into a large bon fire and let the wax burn away.
Notes:
Blue is usually the color of healing. I like to use gold as well, but red and white are also popular choices.
Burying candles is a popular choice to get rid of candles, but it may not be environmentally friendly. It may be wise to go with a candle that is biodegradable such as beeswax, soy, tallow, or stearin wax. Each of those options may be difficult to source for some. Truly 100% soy candles can be difficult to acquire due to labeling issue (they’re often mixed with paraffin. Beeswax is expensive and isn’t vegan friendly. Stearin is usually palm oil, but sometimes it’s mixed with coconut oil or animal fat. Tallow is animal fat. The candles can sometimes be difficult to work with (burn too fast, smell off due to the fat not being processed properly, or produce a lot of smoke.)
What words can I say that haven’t already been said? Black lives matter. If you’re more outraged about property damage than human lives, then you have your priorities wrong and you’re a shitty person. People do not need to “get over” the egregious murder of another person, especially at the hands of authority figures. Authority figures are suppose to be there to protect and promote peace – so why are they armed as they are? These are simple, basic human rights. It shouldn’t even need to be said – it should be implicitly understood and accepted, not debated.
Right now, I’m spending my time listening. I’m protesting and addressing racism within my family and friends and reminding people to be compassionate. People need to put aside their own uncomfortable or defensive feelings to empathize and listen to what black people are saying. But most of all, I’m supporting and listening the best way I can.
Here’s some spells that require nothing. They can be cast on the fly, in a moment’s notice. They don’t require a specific words to be said or anything like that. They’re subtle, which is exactly what you need when you’re trying to save yourself and others. I’ve tested them myself, so I hope they work well for everyone else.
Invisibility glamour
This spell is simple. Essentially, you’re reducing your visibility to whoever is looking. They’ll see you, but not notice you. It’s like when you’re looking for your keys and they’re right next to your cup of coffee. It’s probably not going to stop someone from looking for you if you just punched them in the head, but it will keep people from focusing or staring too hard at you.
To cast the glamour, you need to pick the best way to cast it. Either you need to stand very still or move at a consistent, steady pace. So sit in a chair, stand in a corner or along a wall, hide behind a car, etc. Or you can walk at a steady pace matching the people walking around you in a crowd.
Now take a deep breath and think or whisper “You do not see me. No one sees me. I’m not here. Keep moving. You do not see me.” The phrasing doesn’t have to be exact. Say whatever feels right.
As you do this, pull your energy around you, like pulling a blanket closer to you and then over your head. Hold onto that as you move steadily and quietly to attend to you business.
This spell is best used when you need to get out a situation where you’re not being directly confronted, but feel unsafe. It’s also useful when you just want to go for a walk and don’t want people to bother you.
This is a magic circle, so if you’re familiar with those, then you’ve already got this down pat. For those of you who aren’t great at magic circles, then it’s time to put those video game skills and TV watching hours to use.
Imagine yourself (and others) in a circle of energy. Fire is a common usage, but so it bright light. I tend to do light, wind, or water because those resonate well with me. You can swath yourself in darkness or whatever works best for you. Lean on your elemental associations and magical strengths here. If you do a lot of herbal work, picture plants or trees in front of you. Test out which methods work best for you.
If you’re not great at this sort of thing, then just pick something from a video game or TV show. Channel someone from The Last Avatar or pick your favorite protection spell from a video game and use it.
When you do your imagining, push your energy out from you to form a circle, bubble, or shield around you and whatever you’re protecting. This is energy manipulation, so brush up on that if it’s not something you’re great at.
This will not stop bullets, but I’ve seen people pause, hesitate, or stagger when crossing a barrier. That might give you enough time to run away. Mostly, it should be used when you’re already marching or in a stationary position, like at a protest.
Throwing Sigils
So this is kind of advanced, but it’s one of the number one ways I use spells in the field.
First you need to know how to make sigils. For this spell, create a sigil that keeps people away. Now simplify that sigil if you need to. It has to be easy to remember.
Now gather your energy into one hand and trace the sigil in the air. You can also trace the sigil with your foot, if that’s better for you. As you do this, speak or think your intent clearly.
With your energy still in your hand, push your sigil forward towards your target.
You can also use traditional symbols for this spell, such as a banishing pentagram. This can be done with any kind of spell or sigil, you just have to be able to remember and write the symbol or sigil clearly.
Energy healing
Healing spells are never meant to replace medical assistance, but it won’t hurt to cast a healing spell while you’re waiting for a medic to look at the injured person.
Place your hand over the injury, if possible. If that isn’t possible, put a hand on their back, belly, or head. You can technically touch them anywhere, but their core and head works best. Remember to ask their consent to be touched!
Push your energy into them gently. Focus on being calm and soothing the injury. Let the energy flow steadily and calmly, like the running of a creek.
If they’re bleeding, focus the energy towards the open wound and staunching that blood flow, like the energy forms an invisible barrier between the skin and the exterior of the body.
You can also temper the energy with cooling agents, if the person feels hot or feverish. Or heat up that energy when someone is cold.
If you’re working to flush out contamination, like pepper spray, focus on cooling energy and make sure you’re providing lots of clear water to wash their eyes and skin without getting contaminated yourself (and make sure you remove contaminated clothing).
Meet Up Spell
Lost your crew and phone is dead? Had to do a runner while protesting and not sure if it’s safe to text the others? This spell can help.
Get yourself to a safe location and send up an energy flare into the sky. To do this, sit for a moment and think of the people you want to meet up with. Use their names, if possible, but if not, think of their faces. Then push your energy up into the sky with a concentrated intention of “I am here” and “come find me”.
You can also enchant chalk or spray paint with the same idea. Push the energy into the chalk or paint rather than up into the sky and use it to mark the location or direction you went in. Use an agreed upon code or location to help yourself even more.
I’m staying here!
To make sure that no one moves you from your spot, take a strong stance and press into all the corners of your feet. Push your energy down, like planting roots.
You can double-down on this spell by also using your favorite grounding technique or mountain meditation, really focusing on becoming hard and difficult to move.
Binding hex
Point at the target then draw an X across their body and point down to the ground. Focus to keep them in one place and unable to do anything.
You can use a sigil instead of an X for this exact purpose, if you’d like.
Practical tips: Know your rights. Remember to wear good shoes, have an exit strategy, and wear a mask (which you should be doing anyway, because coronavirus is still a thing.) Charge your phone and maybe take a moment to look up what lawyers are offering to represent protesters then write that down somewhere that is not your phone (in case it’s lost or broken). Bringing some medical supplies and water is also a great idea. Just… prepare yourself for things to go poorly.
Please stay safe out there! Protect yourself and protect others. Stand for what’s right.
Here’s a health spell intended to encourage continued long health or increase long bouts of healthiness. If you suffer from chronic illness, this spell may increase the period of time where the illness is less impactful on your life, such as a period of less pain or more time between depressive bouts.
It’s not intended to replace actual medical care. As always, seek out a physician or health care provider if you’re feeling unwell, in addition to any spell work you may cast.
What you’ll need:
Peach
Sharp knife or carving instrument
Pen and paper
Rosemary infused oil (optional)
First, find a fresh peach. As perfect as a peach as you can get. Clean it and then eat the peach as is – whole. (So don’t cut it into slices). Set aside the kernel.
Clean the kernel, leaving it to dry fully. This may take several weeks or even months. You may be able to speed it up by drying it out in a dehydrator or on a low heat in the oven for a long time. The choice is yours.
Once the kernel is fully dry, take a pencil and trace the outline of the kernel on a piece of paper with a pencil. Do it a few times so you have many different peach pit shapes to work on. On the paper, write your full name or initials in the kernel’s shape. Depending on the size of your name and/or the size of the kernel, this may take a few tries to get it just right. You’ll also want to practice drawing the infinity sign ∞ (an 8 laying on it’s side).
Once you think you’ve gotten the writing down, take a sharp knife and carve your name or full initials onto one side of the kernel. You’ll need a lot of patience and a steady hand. On the other side, carve the infinity sign.
Optionally, lightly rub some rosemary infused oil (such as olive oil) over the peach pit when done carving. Pat dry then set aside to let dry completely. This isn’t necessary, but it’s an added bonus.
Carry this peach pit with you or place it by, above, or under your bed.
This is a spell to help alleviate medical bills and bring funds in for medicine and so forth. It’s specifically set for that.
Ingredients:
Mint (any kind, but common mint is ideal)
Cinquefoil (aka five finger grass)
Apple (any kind, whatever feels most useful for the spell)
Rue
Rose petals (any kind, try color symbolism or floriography)
Water
A place to plant or bury something
A sunny day
Gather your ingredients and bring them outside on a sunny day.
Sitting in the sun, cut open the apple in half. Sprinkle the interior of the apple halves with the rest of the herbs. As you do this, imagine and/or speak how healthy and debt free you are and will continue to be.
Bury the apple halves in the ground or in a flower pot. As you bury them, say something like this:
I buried this apple
To bury my debts
As this apple decays, my debts are resolved
As this apple decays, my health grows ever stronger
As this apple decays, my finances grow ever stronger
Water the ground, slow and steady. Repeat the above verse as you water it. Keep watering the area once a month, ideally on the days you pay your health bills.
Notes:
You don’t have to speak the spell loudly. You can even clearly speak the spell in your head.
You can do the spell again and again every spring, if you want to.
This is a spell designed to help protect them home in an active manner. When done, this spell will automatically absorb negative energy without you having to touch a thing. There is some spell maintenance, but otherwise, this spell will work on its own.
The idea behind this spell is the concept of cornerstones within the foundation of a house. Historically, these stones were carefully chosen and often had folkloric or even magical implications. You’ll probably need to dive a bit into gem and crystal lore to find the right stone or stones for you.
There’s two ways to do this spell and both are outlined below. The spell works the nearly the same for both, so pick whichever fits your style best.
Method One – One Stone
Ingredients
A stone selected from your property
A quiet yet obvious place to put it
Purified or blessed water (see notes)
First, select your stone. This should be a fairly large size stone (fist sized) and dug up from your property. You can also use a loose brick or hunk of cement that comes from your house itself.
Wash the stone with purified water and make sure as you do, you think soft, loving thoughts. You can think of how safe you want your home to be, how protected, how prosperous, or how full of love. But the energy you put into that stone should be soft and loving. So instead of thinking “I want to be debt-free” instead focus on “my home is full of abundance”. It may be a good idea to write down these softer thoughts ahead of time, if you aren’t good at thinking on your feet.
Once the stone is washed, carry it throughout the house, like you would a guest you’re showing your home to. Take it to each room and space, announce what that room is, and move on. Go to every space, even the ones you wouldn’t show a guest, like a boiler room, the attic, or garage. Remember to keep those thoughts and energy soft and loving. This stone is a close friend you’re happy to show your home so keep that in mind as you move.
If the stone isn’t dry by the time you finish your tour, let it dry somewhere prominent in your home. The kitchen counter or table is a good choice, but you can select wherever. It should be a relatively busy area, where people in your home pass through the space and live their lives.
After the stone is dry, go ahead and find a nice place for the stone to live. Ideally, this should be a bookshelf or somewhere similar. You can put it somewhere quieter, but I find that if you pass the stone more often and see it, the spell’s maintenance stays on track. It tends to get forgotten otherwise.
To maintain the spell, make sure to dust and wash the stone regularly in purified water. If you do any remodeling or changes in the house (such as changing the purpose of a room or repainting it) take the stone through the walk-through tour again.
Method Two – Many Stones
Ingredients:
Four stones of grounding
As many stones of protection as you have doors and windows (see notes)
As many stones of healing and health as members of your household (include pets)
As many stones of love as members of your household (including pets), plus one
A stone for prosperity and/or abundance
A stone for wealth
A stone for peace and harmony
Any other stones for purposes you’d like to have in your home
This is going to entirely depend on what stones you’d like best. Folklore for stones, gems, and crystals can vary greatly, so you might not select something that someone else would. Doubling up meanings of your stone selections is also a good idea, so the stones work together harmoniously.
The nice part about this method is that you can add new stones as needed. However, these stones have to work in concert to get the same power as the singular stone method – and it can be a little noisy or confusing when you’re trying to work with all the stones at once.
My tip here is to pick small stones. In fact, I’d recommend getting a small glass vase or something similar and filling the container with the stones. The stones would all be safe in one space, working together, plus they can look rather beautiful in this fashion.
For this spell, I might choose salt, obsidian, or black tourmaline for grounding. Banded agate, malachite, or quartz crystal for protection. I’d probably pick bloodstone, amethyst, and jade for health and healing. For love I might pick rose quartz, moonstone, or pink and/or watermelon. tourmaline. For prosperity and wealth, I’d select peridot, topaz, and aventurine. Aquamarine, sardonyx, selenite for peace and harmony. Other stones might be onyx for defensive reasons or carnelian for courage. Those are just examples. You’ll probably have other choices for your own needs.
Once you’ve collected your stones, purify your stones with water. Here you have to be careful, because some of the stones you have may not react well with water, especially if the water is infused in some way. Spend a little time googling to see what may damage your stones.
Once you’ve cleaned and purified the stones, follow the steps outlined in method one. Here the spell remains the same, just keep all the stones together and work slowly to make sure the energies in the stones get along. Not unlike how you might manage a group of friends at a get-together, really. Once you’ve done your tour with the stones, put them in the same place together.
Spell maintenance is also the same. Clean and dust them as needed, making sure to not forget about the stones themselves.
Notes:
Here purified or blessed water is whatever kind of water that feels purified or blessed to you. It can be tap water you’ve dedicated to a deity or it can be water you’ve sought out at a sparkling spring and filtered yourself. It can be moon water or holy water. This is where your particular brand of magic can come into play, so adapt at will.
When it comes to selecting the number of protection stones, what you’re doing is selecting stones to protect against particular doorways, pathways, and so on. You can just protect the doorways and skip the windows, you can protect against doors, windows, drains, chimneys, and mirrors. How many or how few you select to protect is up to you. Your house may have two doors and twelve windows, so you might have fourteen stones. If that seems like a lot (and it is) then consider dropping the amount of pathways you’re protecting.
Ever been lost in the sea of yourself? You just feel restless and confused and sad. Hopeless yet desperate to move forward. Hoping to find something that will help you keep your head above water yet finding yourself anchored with no where to go.
It’s a crappy feeling. When you spend several weeks, months, or years with barren fields, so to speak, it’s called a fallow time. This can happen to anyone about anything. It happens to artisans (writer’s block, anyone?). It happens to businesses. It happens to spiritual paths. It just happens. Sometimes you need to let your live be boring and kind of crap so you can sow new seeds for a better future for yourself.
This can be exceptionally difficult however, when you’re dealing with spirituality or magic. How do you know you’ve even going the right way? You don’t and that’s extremely difficult to come to terms with when you just want direction.
So here’s a few ways to reclaim yourself and your path magically.
Find a quiet place that feels like home
This one is pretty simple. If there’s a place that you resonate with entirely, the ocean, the mountains, a park, your kitchen, your bed, then schedule yourself time to be there. You should make that location as ideal as possible and make sure that you aren’t disturbed for several hours.
Setting up the ideal situation may require some planning ahead. You may wish to aim for a day where the beach won’t be too crowded so you can enjoy swimming in the ocean without worrying about a beach ball bouncing off your head. Maybe you feel most happy with a batch of delicious bread baking and soup bubbling on the stove. You might need to wash all your bed linens and pull out some extra comfy ones you don’t normally use for this session. Essentially, what you’re doing is setting up as close to a perfect scenario as possible. You may need to clean up the space before you set up (so clear out the stack of crap that accumulated on your kitchen table), but it depends on what place is your happy place.
Distractions should be entirely limited. This means turn off your phone, computer, TV, and so on. Just turn them off. If you’ve never unplugged before, this can be extremely difficult to do. But try it for at least an hour. You may wish to play some music, and if so, make sure that it’s relatively inconvenient for you to scroll through instagram or facebook chat someone. Place the device out of range, with the notifications on silent, and just sink into the relative quiet.
Once you’ve gotten set up, just exist in that space for the time you’ve set aside. Read a book that feels inspiring to you (maybe it’s a big thinking kind of book or maybe you hauled out your Harry Potter to remind you why you love magic.) Swim in the ocean, lay in the grass and watch the clouds. People watch, read through family recipes, hike through the forests, slowly boat across a lake… you get the idea. Just exist in that space in a way that makes you feel relaxed and happy. Let your mind drift (it will) and soon you’ll find you may start connecting spiritually to the place, remembering why it feels so special to you. Recall what’s magically about that place and you may rediscover what’s magical about you.
Cutting the threads
This is spell work that asks you to have a fairly open space and time to set up the spell.
First, clear a space. If you’re casting the spell in the living room, you may need to put things on top of your coffee table away and move that side table you always trip on anyway out of the way entirely. You’re going to need space to move and you don’t want to be tripping on things when you don’t need to. You’ll want at least a five foot clear space, but I like to have a few feet extra all around for wiggle room.
Next, write out all the things that are holding you back. What things pull on you, weight you down, whispering unwanted things to you? What makes you feel muddy, sour, mundane, and dumb? Write all of that down on slips of paper (post its are perfect for this). Scatter these slips of paper across your casting space. It’s really ideal to place the paper on or near objects that symbolism or remind you of the words on the paper. (So if looking at your exercise bike makes you feel sloppy and guilty for not using it as often, put that piece of paper on the bike).
Get a ball of string. This can be any color you like, so use color symbolism. Tie a loop around your dominant wrist. It doesn’t need to be tight. Gently, go to each place you put the paper and wrap or tie the string around or near it as best you can and move onto the next paper.
I recommend doing this is the order of the things that come to mind. If you really dislike your job, that might be first, but your second item is you feel poorly whenever you see your aunt, then she might be next even if the photo of her with the slip of paper is all the way across the room.
Things will become a jumbled mess. That’s OK. It’s kind of meant to be. Just keep going until you’ve tagged all the pieces of paper. Once you do, gently tie your non-dominant wrist with the string.
Now grab a sharp pair of scissors or a knife and cut the strings that attach you to the items. You might need to make several cuts so that the string drops to the ground. Keep doing this until all the string is cut and CAREFULLY cut the string free of your wrists.
An alternative way to do the spell is to tie the string to your wrist, then to the object or paper, then back to your wrist, but this can become quite tight and painful in larger spaces as you tug the strings across the room with you. I think it kind of works better this way, because it feels more freeing and thus more powerful, but it’s more painful and tends to break at least one random glass thing you forgot you owned.
Either way, take the strings and burn them in a fire-safe vessel and call it a day.
Ask for a journey or trial
You can always as a spirit for advice. Usually people tap their spirit guides for this, but sometimes you need a stranger to give you advice. Other times they just keep telling you what you already know. Ask them again anyway.
If you don’t have a spirit guide or don’t want to use them, you can go find someone who can help. I wrote about spirits who can help, spirits I can personally vouch for as friendly and helpful. I like and visit these spirits often and the space is still considered quite safe for travelers and dreamers (ie, you) to wander through. The spirit ruler in particular is good for requesting a journey or trial, as they tend to be fully aware of just how much is lost between the astral and the physical realms when it comes to memory.
I know you’re thinking. That’s just getting advice. Well, the reason I make the above suggestion is because if you’re going to ask for a trial, you want it to be from someone who will give you a task that will give you the result you want: reclaiming yourself.
The trial may be something classic: “go here and get this item for me and you’ll be rewarded” but the actual reward is discovering yourself. It could be a battle scenario or dedicating yourself to their service. It depends. You don’t have to say yes to the suggested trial or journey. If it sounds sketchy, then don’t do it. But this gives you a chance for you to have an adventure that will help you find you again. Find yourself and your will once more without all the baggage that comes with living.
Those are just some of the ways to magically reclaim yourself. As always, I recommend cleansing yourself (and cleaning your space) when you’re struggling spiritually as sometimes the mere act of cleansing and cleaning can dissolve the spiritual gunk.
There’s so many spells you can do at the beginning of a new year. So many. Cleansing, healing, protection, wish granting, prosperity, so on, and so on. This spell starts during the new year and goes all year long.
The purpose of this spell is simple. You’re affirming or wishing for something positive or good to happen and letting go of the unwanted things each and every month. It’s a knot spell and a pretty basic one at that, but the power of this spell, the real strength of it, happens at the end of the year.
Ingredients:
Three strands of thread or string, any color (see notes)
A place to leave the braids all year long, undisturbed
A fire with an appropriate fire-proof /burning vessel
At the beginning of the year, start this spell. Then do the spell at the end of each month. At the end of the year, you should have 13 separate braids.
First cut three equal pieces of string or thread. As said, it can be any color, but you should probably aim for the length of each piece of string to be at least from your wrist to your elbow in length. It will mean more braiding, but it helps at the end of the year part of this spell to have the extra length.
Now, pick one string and name it the things you’d like to see continue or grow in your life. Pick another strand and name is something you’d like to let go of or release from your life. The last string should be a wish you’d like to see happen. Braid these three strands together, repeating the names of each string as you cross them.
Example: The first string is to grow your wealth, the second string is to release debts, and the third string is to save enough to visit a relative during the year. Cross the grow your wealth string over the releasing debts string, saying each of these as you cross them. Then cross the saving money string over the new middle string, the grow your wealth string. Repeat this pattern, saying each as you move the string.
When done, knot the top and bottom of the braid, if you haven’t already done so, and put the braid somewhere safe.
Do this near the end of each month, including January. (So you’ll be making two for January, and one for each month of the rest of the year). Each month, start a new braid and you can use the same string names or new ones. (So each braid can have different spells on it). Save each braid in the same spot.
At the end of the year, after you make the final braid of December, braid all of the braids together. You can look up a thirteen strand braid, if you like, but it’s complicated. You want to avoid adding your frustrating to the spell while you’re casting it, so I recommend skip the fancy braid. Instead, you can braid three months together and then braid those groups together until you have one braid. Or you can simply separate the braids into three groups and braid them all together. It’s up to you, just pick something that’s easy enough for you to do.
As you braid the final large braid, you may wish to repeat the wishes and things you’d like to grow. You could even add new things to that final final, if you like.
Once the braid is done, you may not be able to knot the ends of it. That’s OK. Instead, you can take new pieces of string and tie the top and bottom off instead.
Now get your fire going and toss the braid into the flame and say,
“What I wish to grow, will continue to grow.
What I wish to fade, will burn to ash.
What I wish for, this fire will create it true.”
The wishes and things you’d like to grow will be passed on and the things you’ve let go will disperse.
Notes:
You can choose any color you’d like for the string. Ideally, one string of each braid should be green (for what you’d like to grow), one should be black, gray, dark blue, or white (for what you’d like released), and one should be silver, gold, or red (for the wish), but it’s not required at all.
Practice your braiding before starting the spell, if you aren’t very good at it. The braid’s neatness doesn’t matter much month-to-month, but the final braid can get messy quick if you’re not a skilled hand.
Because there’s quite a bit of string involved during the burning part of this spell, make sure that you have a safe space to burn the braid and time to properly monitor the fire.
If you find that you wished for something one month and discovered you don’t want that at the end of the year, you can say that as you make the braid at the end of the year.
