Long Distance Protection Spell

What you’ll need:

  • Jar candle, preferably blue or white in color
  • Marker or paint

Write on the bottom of your candle jar your target’s name.

Light the candle and speak or think what you want to protect your target from.

Be as specific or as general as you like with your protection chant. Just be heartfelt about it.

Let the candle burn while you speak and blow it out when you’re done.

The next day, light the candle and repeat the protection chant. Continue until the candle is entirely worn through.

When done, toss out the unusable candle wax with a thank you.

Notes:

  • Hot soapy water and a rough sided sponge should clean the marker or paint off the jar. This is useful if you want to reuse the jar once the candle is used up.

Your Enemy’s Funeral Curse

This is a fairly extreme spell, but these are extreme times.

The idea for this spell isn’t new – similar versions exist in many places – but I was reminded of it from Judika Illes’ Encyclopedia of 5,000 Spells. In the text, Illes says you could be holding a memorial service for your enemy’s success or happiness. It certainly could be used that way. It’s better suited, in my opinion, for someone who has committed great acts of horror against you and yours – a tyrant, a rapist, a murderer, etc. Either way, this isn’t a spell for small grievances.

My version of this spell is a bit more elaborate, but secular. Many versions of this spell are religious in nature. If you belong to a specific religion, feel free to bring your funerary rites into it – invoke the god or gods as needed.

It’s literally your enemy’s funeral.

What you’ll need:

  • White candles
  • Funerary incense
  • Piece of paper and pen
  • Photo of the target
  • War water or war oil (optional)
  • Hexing dressing oil or water (optional, see notes)
  • Funerary dressing oil or water (optional, see notes).

If you’re dressing your candles, do so with both funerary and hexing materials.

Set up an altar as you would for funerary rites or a memorial service. If you’re religious, go through all of the effort for a proper memorial service or funerary rite, as much as you are able. If you’re non-religious or casting this in a secular manner, then create an altar by setting up a funerary or memorial altar. A simple example is given in the image below.

Write your target’s name on a piece of paper and place it under each candle. You can alternative carve the target’s name in the candle but if you do this, you must burn the candles all the way through until there is no more wick to burn.

Draw an X over the target in the photograph and place it where you can see it during the spell.

Now, recite a eulogy for your target. Alternatively, you may say a memorial or funerary prayer. If nothing comes to mind, then say something like the following. How harsh or kind you are is up to you.

“I wasn’t fond of [Target’s name] and I’m glad they’re dead.” or “Today, we see the end of [Target’s name]’s success and happiness.” or “[Target’s name] was well-hated and feared. The world is better off without them.” or “[Target’s name] deserved worse than what they got, but death is a close second.” or “[Target’s name] is dead and the world is better off without them.”

When the candles burn down, burn the photo, the pieces of paper, and the candle remnants down as much as possible. Toss whatever remains in the trash.

Notes:

  • Omit the funerary incense if you can’t use smoke. Funerary aromatherapy can be subbed in. If it’s the fragrances that’s the issue, simply omit it all together.
  • War water is an infused water with bits of iron (broken iron nails, iron knives, etc) used for sending hexing, repelling hexes, or repelling negative energy. For some, how you use it depicts it’s usage. For others, the way it’s made will depict the usage.
  • War oil, of course, is the same thing as war water, just made with oil instead.
  • Dressing the candle refers to spreading water, oil, herbs, or whatever else on the outside or sometimes the top of the candle to add power to the candle. Make sure to use common sense when dressing your candle. Don’t put oil or water or dried herbs near the flames. Keep fire safety in mind!
  • Hexing dressing oil is simply an oil infused with hexing or malevolently intended herbs. Hexing water is the same thing as the oil, except with water.
  • Funerary dressing oil is an oil infused with plants associated with funerary rites, often prayed over. The water is the same thing. Holy water could be used for this spell… but it depends on your perspective.
  • Plants for hexes, rage, or hatred include: cactus, fennel, parsley, bird of paradise, juniper, basil, peony, chamomile, rhododendron, cypress, hemlock, apple, oleanders, mistletoe, and literally any poison. Be careful when making this oil and selecting ingredients, especially the poisons. Know what you’re doing.
  • Plants for funerary purposes: thyme, calla lily, elm, lavender, leaf of god, marigolds, willow, pansy, cypress

Mirror and Candle Love Spell

This is a love spell to draw romantic love to you. Someone who will love your heart and not your physical appearance.

What you’ll need:

  • A mirror you can move around
  • A red, yellow, pink, or white candle

Place the candle in front of you and shift the mirror so that the candle is reflected in the mirror but not you. Turn out the lights and make it as dark as possible without making yourself uncomfortable or creating a trip hazard.

Light the candle and say,

"I seek love.
Someone who loves me for me
Someone who loves me for what they cannot physically see
Someone who loves me beyond what I look like.
Someone that sees my unseen heart, my unseen mind, and my unseen soul
And loves all of me for that.
I seek a love that comes to me now.
A love who will see me, know me, and love me.
I seek love."

Blow out the candle, making sure that you briefly appear in the mirror while doing this.

Notes:

  • The candle really can be any color. I selected red and pink because they’re often the colors of romance. I assign yellow as  a “seeking” color – used to find things or seek them out. White was the color I originally had in mind, because this really is a seeking spell and the same method can be used with a different chant, you know?
  • A portable mirror or make up mirror works well for this kind of spell, but a medicine cabinet mirror could easily be used as well.
  • The intention of the final glance of you as you blow out the candle is a physical connection is made at some point. This can be skipped if you’re not looking for any sort of physical connection.

Break That Luck Candle Spell

Sometimes we just get some terrible bouts of luck that just needs to end and go away. This spell will help you do just that.

Why’s so much of this spell optional? Because of the structure of the spell, you have to breath, blow out, and relight the candle. That can be distressing if one has sensitivities to scents or smoke. So the scent aspect of this spell is optional but recommended.

What you’ll need:

  • Candle. A smaller red, white, gold, or black candle is suggested.
  • Incense or aromatherapy oils in cleansing or comforting scents (optional)
  • Powdered good luck herbs (optional)
  • Good Luck dressing/ anointing oil (optional)

Get your candle and charge it with intent or visualize you goal. Alternative, just tell the candle what you want to happen or carve it into the wax. Dress the candle in good luck oil and/or good luck herbs. This depends on your personal practice and if there’s enough space on the candle to even carve things into.

If you’re using aromatherapy or incense during this spell casting, it’s recommended that you start with a cleansing scent and during the break in the spell, start a comforting scent.

Light your candle and chant:

Trouble has come my way,
Bad luck and bad times are bad friends
I turn them away.
Unwelcomed and unwanted,
I break this cycle now.

Blow out the candle. Take a deep breath and release it. Switch to any any comforting scents you wish to use now. Take some time to reflect that the bad luck’s gone now. Once ready, light the candle again, saying the following:

With this new flame, I bring good luck into my life
Good things, beneficial things, will and are happening
And when this candle died, my good luck will live on

Let the candle burn out.

Notes:

  • Cleansing scents might be mint, citrus, sage, etc but comforting scents might might pumpkin, vanilla, or apple.
  • Short list of good luck herbs: Cinquefoil (five finger grass), clover, good luck iron cross, basil, allspice, cloves, ginger, wintergreen berries, star anise, bay, cinnamon, chamomile, mint, peppermint, or spearmint.
  • Your good luck dressing / anointing oil could be any recipe. I make up my own. You can simply soak some good luck herbs in oil for a few weeks or simmer them on the stove for a few hours in oil.
  • Please use fire safety! Use small candles to shorten wait times when you’re waiting for candles to burn down. Don’t set yourself, your home, your loved ones, or a forest on fire.

Happy casting!

For Opportunities Candle Spell

This spell is to bring opportunities to you. If you’re looking to find a job or line up a new gig, this one’s for you. If you’re looking for a new place to live or the opportunity to meet someone special, this one’s also for you. It’s a general spell that lets you draw opportunities to you for whatever you’re hoping to achieve.

For this you need a simple candle. The best one for this sort of thing is one that you can light a number of times, so maybe a jar candle that smells nice. The scent doesn’t really matter, but it may be helpful to have something bright like citrus or something inviting like cinnamon. It’s really up to you and the kind of opportunities you’re looking for.

Get comfortable in a chair with the candle. Make sure you’re in as dark as a room as you can comfortably be in. I prefer pitch blackness, but if that makes you nervous, then have a bit of light. For this spell, confidence is helpful, so you’ll want to be comfortable in near darkness versus uncomfortable in full darkness.

Light the candle and say,

“This candle is a light in the dark.

The opportunities I seek are draw to this light and to me.

When this candle burns, my wishes are heard,

When this candle dies, my wishes are satisfied.

This candle is a light in the dark,

I draw opportunities to me now.

[Detail the opportunities you want. Feel free to repeat things that are important or describe them. Repeat the timeframe you want them in.]

These are the opportunities I seek.

This candle is the light in the dark for these opportunities to find me.

They are coming to me now.

My wishes are will be satisfied.”

Blow out the candle.

Light the candle again and again each day until the candle runs out, repeating the first verse of the spell and / or concentrating on the opportunities you want while lighting the candle.

Trading Health Candle Healing Spell

This is a very simple healing spell using a candle, but sometimes simple is best.

What you need:

  • A candle
  • Target’s name

Get a candle and carve the person’s name into the wax.

You can additionally dress the candle to further reflect the person you want to heal. Anoint it in infused oil that smells like their perfume, sprinkle healing herbs over it, pick their favorite color, etc. Whatever you’d like to do to dress it. It’s not necessary, but it can help.

Light the candle and say,

“Candle, as you burn,

So burns away [target’s] sickness

As you grow weaker,

They grow stronger.

As you die,

They thrive.”

Now burn the candle for a set period of time every night until the candle can no longer be lit. Repeat the chant each time you lit it.

Maybe you meditate with the candle for ten minutes or you burn it while you talk to that person on the phone. It’s not about the length you burn the candle for so much as the consistency and dedicated time spent to the healing.

When the candle cannot be lit anymore, bury it in the ground. Alternatively, you can toss it into a large bon fire and let the wax burn away.

Notes:

  • Blue is usually the color of healing. I like to use gold as well, but red and white are also popular choices.
  • Burying candles is a popular choice to get rid of candles, but it may not be environmentally friendly. It may be wise to go with a candle that is biodegradable such as beeswax, soy, tallow, or stearin wax. Each of those options may be difficult to source for some. Truly 100% soy candles can be difficult to acquire due to labeling issue (they’re often mixed with paraffin. Beeswax is expensive and isn’t vegan friendly. Stearin is usually palm oil, but sometimes it’s mixed with coconut oil or animal fat. Tallow is animal fat. The candles can sometimes be difficult to work with (burn too fast, smell off due to the fat not being processed properly, or produce a lot of smoke.)

Increasing Luck Candle Spell

This is a simple candle spell, but perfect for people who like to do the same spell often. It’ll give you a boost of luck each time.

Ingredients:

  • A candle (your choice of color).

Pick a color candle that feels energetic or lucky to you. Yellow or gold is popular, but red or orange is a good choice too.

Sit in the dark with the candle in front of you. Light it and say the following,

Fire before me,

Increase my luck in leap and bounds,

For long as this candle is around.

Burn the candle for seven minutes, sitting with it the whole time. You can repeat the spell again if you want, or just simply sit and think about the kind of things good luck can bring.

After the seven minutes are over, blow out the candle and keep it. Next time you want to shift your luck, light the candle again, repeat the verbal spell, and burn the candle for seven minutes.

Notes:

  • When you burn the candle anymore, save the wax to make into a new candle.
  • You can dress the candle, if you like.

Tealight Coin Money Spell

Ready for the easiest money spell ever? Small but mighty, this spell is designed for even the most secretive witches or beginners can do it in fifteen minutes or less.

Ingredients:

  • White tealight candle
  • A shiny penny or some other coin
  • A tray, burn plate, or fire-safe thing (see notes)

Lift your tealight candle out of the little tin or plastic cup it’s sitting in. You might need to pull it by the wick to get it out, but it should just slid out.

Take your coin and rub it between your hands, like you’re trying to warm your hands up with the coin in your palms. As you do this, say or think of the money you want to come into your life. Think something specific and attainable like “come on rent money” rather than “come on winning lottery numbers”. Put a lot of energy and emphasis on that wish.

(Why is rent money is more attainable than lotto numbers? Primarily for two reasons. Prayers, wishes, and other spells are often thought or said for over the lottery. That’s a lot of magic pulling on the same thing and luck factors in as well. Rent money is more attainable because someone might loan you the money or you get an extra shift at work or something. There’s more chances for that to happen. That being said, it won’t hurt to cast a spell for the lottery, just don’t be surprised if it doesn’t work.)

Now put the coin under the candle inside the tin or plastic candle holder and put the candle back on top of the coin. Light the candle and say or think,

“As you burn, my money will come.

When you die, my money has arrived.”

Carry the penny / coin with you. You can reuse that coin or keep it as a lucky coin, if the spell works. If the spell doesn’t work, give or spend the coin (or use it in a cursing spell). You might need to scrap the wax off to spend it, but don’t keep it.

Notes:

  • When it comes to fire plate for this spell, it’s really more about catching spilling wax. So pick something, like a ceramic plate, to put under the candle. The coin probably gives the tealight candle just enough rise to make spilling wax a problem. If you’re doing this spell outside or you have some other sort of candle plate or whatever, then don’t worry about this.
  • Beginner practitioners of candle magic probably will sooner rather than later hit up your local dollar store or used goods store for a simple ceramic plate. It doesn’t need to be fancy. It’s just there to catch incense ash and candle wax, but that plate can be a lifesaver when it comes to clean up. Seriously. 1000% recommend.

A Charm Spell to Gain Attention

A simple but effective charm to gain attention. This can be used when you want to be flattered, charm someone at a bar or club, show well at an audition or interview, or stand out in a crowd.

I wouldn’t particularly consider this a kind spell. It gains attention, but it doesn’t necessarily gain good attention. You may gain the attention of someone you’d rather not deal with. You may get yelled at by your parents instead of spend time with them. It gives you attention – it doesn’t say what kind of attention. It’s up to you to use the attention you gain to your advantage.

That being said, it’s good when you want to stand out while at the club, auditions, or interviews.

Ingredients:

  • Yellow or red candle
  • Floral fabric
  • Clover
  • Apple or apple blossom
  • Thyme
  • Jasmine
  • Oak leaf or acorn
  • Almond or almond blossom
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • St. John’s wort
  • Eyebright
  • Rosemary
  • Hydrangea
  • Rose
  • Peony
  • Sugar
  • Rose quartz
  • Carnelian
  • Quartz crystal
  • Citrine
  • Bloodstone
  • Goldstone
  • Fire agate
  • Aventurine
  • Garnet
  • Magnet or magnetic sand

Make a charm bag that closes using the fabric. It can be as large or small as you’d like. A good sized charm bag for this specific charm should fit in the palm of your hand.

Carve into the candle “I shine. I glow. I am like fire.” Use a knife, toothpick, or even just write it with a sharpie.

Gather together at least seven ingredients from the list (excluding the candle and fabric) and spread them before the candle.

Light the candle and say the following:

I shine and glow

I rise above others

Others will see and know me

I am like fire

I draw people like moths to a flame

Blow out the candle. Fill the charm bag with your chosen items and carry it with you when you wish to gain attention.

Notes:

  • Yellow is a good color choice for this charm. Yellow roses, yellow peonies, yellow fabric, antiqued hydrangeas, and so on. Anything that’s yellow or gold works well.
  • Sewing’s the best option for creating the fabric bag, as you can using knot magic in your stitches as a boost. But you can glue, staple, or create the charm bag any way you’d like.
  • You can repeat the spell as often as you like, reusing the candle and stone ingredients again. You’ll need new dried herb though.

New Year Braid Spell

There’s so many spells you can do at the beginning of a new year. So many. Cleansing, healing, protection, wish granting, prosperity, so on, and so on. This spell starts during the new year and goes all year long.

The purpose of this spell is simple. You’re affirming or wishing for something positive or good to happen and letting go of the unwanted things each and every month. It’s a knot spell and a pretty basic one at that, but the power of this spell, the real strength of it, happens at the end of the year.

Ingredients:

  • Three strands of thread or string, any color (see notes)
  • A place to leave the braids all year long, undisturbed
  • A fire with an appropriate fire-proof /burning vessel

At the beginning of the year, start this spell. Then do the spell at the end of each month. At the end of the year, you should have 13 separate braids.

First cut three equal pieces of string or thread. As said, it can be any color, but you should probably aim for the length of each piece of string to be at least from your wrist to your elbow in length. It will mean more braiding, but it helps at the end of the year part of this spell to have the extra length.

Now, pick one string and name it the things you’d like to see continue or grow in your life. Pick another strand and name is something you’d like to let go of or release from your life. The last string should be a wish you’d like to see happen. Braid these three strands together, repeating the names of each string as you cross them.

Example: The first string is to grow your wealth, the second string is to release debts, and the third string is to save enough to visit a relative during the year. Cross the grow your wealth string over the releasing debts string, saying each of these as you cross them. Then cross the saving money string over the new middle string, the grow your wealth string. Repeat this pattern, saying each as you move the string.

When done, knot the top and bottom of the braid, if you haven’t already done so, and put the braid somewhere safe.

Do this near the end of each month, including January. (So you’ll be making two for January, and one for each month of the rest of the year). Each month, start a new braid and you can use the same string names or new ones. (So each braid can have different spells on it). Save each braid in the same spot.

At the end of the year, after you make the final braid of December, braid all of the braids together. You can look up a thirteen strand braid, if you like, but it’s complicated. You want to avoid adding your frustrating to the spell while you’re casting it, so I recommend skip the fancy braid. Instead, you can braid three months together and then braid those groups together until you have one braid. Or you can simply separate the braids into three groups and braid them all together. It’s up to you, just pick something that’s easy enough for you to do.

As you braid the final large braid, you may wish to repeat the wishes and things you’d like to grow. You could even add new things to that final final, if you like.

Once the braid is done, you may not be able to knot the ends of it. That’s OK. Instead, you can take new pieces of string and tie the top and bottom off instead.

Now get your fire going and toss the braid into the flame and say,

“What I wish to grow, will continue to grow.

What I wish to fade, will burn to ash.

What I wish for, this fire will create it true.”

The wishes and things you’d like to grow will be passed on and the things you’ve let go will disperse.

Notes:

  • You can choose any color you’d like for the string. Ideally, one string of each braid should be green (for what you’d like to grow), one should be black, gray, dark blue, or white (for what you’d like released), and one should be silver, gold, or red (for the wish), but it’s not required at all.
  • Practice your braiding before starting the spell, if you aren’t very good at it. The braid’s neatness doesn’t matter much month-to-month, but the final braid can get messy quick if you’re not a skilled hand.
  • Because there’s quite a bit of string involved during the burning part of this spell, make sure that you have a safe space to burn the braid and time to properly monitor the fire.
  • If you find that you wished for something one month and discovered you don’t want that at the end of the year, you can say that as you make the braid at the end of the year.
