Heart Weave Love Spell

This spell is to draw a lover to you, someone who will love you and you’ll love them, and carries specific qualities you desire in a partner. It’s definitely an arts-and-crafts sort of spell, but useful if other spells of a similar style haven’t worked for you yet.

What you’ll need:

  • A piece of bendable metal
  • String, ribbon, yarn, etc.
  • Pliers (optional)
  • Sewing needle (optional)
A piece of wire and string is all you need, but a needle and pliers can can!
Bending the wire into an acceptable heart shape is only the beginning. Note the flat ends at the bottom, making it easier to twist the ends and close the heart.
A heart made by twisting the ends of the wire. This might need a little muscle provided by the pliers. You may also need to reform the heart as it might have been bent out of shape while you were working.

Bend and shape the wire into a heart, twisting the wire together say,

"This is our foundation
Our mutual desire for love
And the love that we find in each other."
Tie the string to the bottom where the wire is twisted and bring the wire across the center of the heart, tuck it over the edge and then pull the string through the center, laying it across the top of the side of the heart.

Now, take a strand of string and tie it to where the wire is twisted together. Spread the string over the surface of the heart, crossing it over. Wrap the string over the metal and then push it through the center and cross it to another edge. Repeat.

Here the string has been tucked around the edge of the heart, pulled through the center again, and pulled across the heart to the opposite side. A new piece of string is tied on since the other one was at the end of the line.

When the string runs out, tie a new piece to the end of the string and just keep on going.

With the new string added, tuck the string around the edge of the heart and pull through like before, bringing it back to center.

As you work, list qualities that you would like in your future partner. You can just simply list them or add any kind of spell work you’d like here. This is where you get to customize the spell to your taste and to draw the kind of lover you’re looking for.

Repeat the qualities you’d like in your partner if you run out of ideas.

With the new string added, tuck the string around the edge of the heart and pull through like before, bringing it back to center.
Here the string is brought around the edge to the front, then crosses the heart’s center, weaving in and out of the strings it crosses, finally resting over the edge of the heart.
The string is tucked under the metal, pulled through the center, and crosses to a new part of the heart to begin the same kind of steps again with a new piece of string.

When the heart is full of string, use the last bit to weave the working end into your heart.

Once done, place the heart in a window facing the street. It doesn’t have to be in full view of others, but it should be located in the window. As you place it say,

"Here I place you
Where my message may take flight
And the love I put into you
Will bring a lover to my side."

Notes:

  • Floral wire is really easy to use and obtain. You might even be able to get some at a local dollar store or similar location. Wire is also available in various colors, so you may be able to purchase something that’s closely aligned to color symbolism for you.
  • Yarn, embroidery thread, or ribbons are great for this. Use color symbolism to get the look you want in the spell or use color symbolism to indicate the emotions or attributes you want.
  • It might be easier to do this spell if you have an active knowledge of weaving, because even though this is basic, it can be hard to get everything taunt and pretty. If you aren’t concerned about this, then don’t worry about it.
  • It’s also useful to use a sewing needling in later stages of the spell, as it can be difficult to push through the string later on.

Handwriting as Sympathetic Magic

Sympathetic magic is the umbrella term for magic spells or techniques that a person or thing can be affected through their name or an object that represents them. The most common form of this is poppet magic.

There’s two facets of this type of magic. The first is imitation, such as that of a poppet, where the object is created to imitate the target. The second is contagion or contact, where the object has been touched or comes from the target, such as hair or a shirt.

These terms originate from Sir James George Frazer of The Golden Bough fame. But sympathetic is a fairly worldwide phenomena and has been evidenced since prehistoric times. Archaeologist and anthropologists are studying modern hunter and gatherer peoples to partially inform over the actions of previous hunter /gatherer peoples. In short, there is a theory that some cave paintings are linked to sympathetic magic or were at least created by magicians and/or shamans in trance states (where they probably would be working sympathetic magics).

As said, poppets and hair are the most common forms of sympathetic magic, but there are many others. The soil from a footprint, someone’s pillow case, a shirt, fingernails, blood, skin, a favorite book, urine, underwear, jewelry, eyeglasses, and so much more. Pretty much anything can be used in this fashion. Including handwriting.

While the lore behind names carries a great many magical rules, such as don’t share your name with spirits. In fact, the fear of someone’s name being used against them magically is one of the reason magical practitioners take on false or magical names. Other reasons include anonymity, safety reasons, initiation rites, and magical ritualization (ie, the shedding of the modern self or of the mundane skin for magical acts), among others.

Handwriting is a very weird and rarely used magical component, but it can be so incredibly useful – and dangerous.

Think about it: you write your name out and your signature is your key and gateway to a great many things. You sign contracts, you sign checks, you sign a variety of things to something as being true. As recognizing it as something you’re agreeing to. It is the very essence of magic, in its own way. If someone has your signature, then it’s proof of your agreement. It’s held as a representation of you, in the mundane world. So your signature is as good as your hair or blood in the magical world. And it can be attached to any kind of spell and used against you.

Makes you think twice, doesn’t it?

Digital signatures should be counter in this, assuming that the signature is true to form. (Or as true as possible) Digital signatures are notoriously hard to get accurate compared to pen and paper signatures, so it may be that you’re automatically safe simply because you can’t actively replicate your own signature digitally.

Of course, you still wrote it and it was still accepted as a signature, so it could probably be still used against you, even if the affect isn’t as strong.

On the same vein of thought, handwriting is uniquely personal. You can probably tell who’s who just from the handwriting alone. This was especially true in the days before computers. It’s so personal that handwriting, such as a handwritten note, can be used in place of hair or a poppet in a sympathetic spell.

It has a variety of usages when one starts thinking of it, including but not limited to the following:

  • Love letters can be used in any number of love spells, including marriage, drawing a certain person towards you, or fidelity charms.
  • A signature or letter can be used to protect someone.
  • Career or success spells can be done by signing your name as the new title you want to achieve.
  • Write your name with your partner’s surname to encourage a relationship or even marriage. (Never thought that kind of school daydream doodling would come back at you like this, did you?)
  • If a patient writes down their symptoms, the written notes can be used in healing spells.
  • A landlord may use a handwritten note or contract to get rid of a renter who refuses to pay.
  • An IOU can be used to compel a repaying of favors.
  • A businessman could use a handwritten contract or signature to get rid of a bad client.
  • A customer can get back at a bad sales agreement or business by a mutually signed contract.
  • The signatures on a badly negotiated contract can be used to fix or create a new contract.
  • A vast number of curses.

So how can you protect your signature or handwriting? There’s a few ways.

First, you can take on a magical name, one that you use exclusively in dealings with the magical world. Like an online handle. You’re known by that and that alone. Sign magical dealings with that name. It’s still you, but there’s a degree of separation that might help mitigate magical spells against you.

You can also purposely write differently than you normally do when dealing with magical things. A good example would be writing a note to a fellow magical practitioner. Maybe you change how you write a few letters, just enough so that it throws off the sympathetic magic and disrupts it.

You can also consider writing in anti-magic ink. Essentially, this is handmade ink created with anti-magic or anti-witchcraft properties. Anything written in this would work like normal ink, but if used in a spell, the ink should counteract or at least mess up the spell in question. Of course, that holds true for your own spells, so be aware of that.

It’s something to think of. Magicians and practitioners tend to do a lot of handwriting, as part of our crafts and practices. It may be a good idea to keep track of how you write or who you share your handwriting with.

It’s also a good idea to think of how you can use your handwriting to represent you. Maybe writing out those affirmations will have more meaning that simply saying them aloud. Maybe you can write yourself a better, happier, healthier future. It’s worth exploring.

Lucky Hands Soap Spell

A daily luck spell that keeps on giving.

This spell is pretty simple, but intended to be used daily. It requires some specific items, but once it’s set up, you’ll only need to do basic maintenance to keep it going.

Ingredients:

  • A soap dispenser / soap dish (see notes)
  • Hand soap (see notes for tips)
  • Sharpie
  • A four-leaf clover
  • A coin
  • Super glue, clear nail polish, or modpodge

Purchase or adapt your bathroom soap dispenser. Ideally, this soap dispenser should be large enough to hide a coin under the base. Very ideally, the base should be designed so you can fit a coin underneath and not have the soap dispenser become unbalanced. This may take a little work to find what you’re looking for or you may need to pick a thinner or smaller coin. (An US dime instead of an US quarter, for example.)

Once you’ve found your soap dispenser, write on the bottom of the soap dispenser in sharpie a lucky symbol. This can be a four leaf clover, a key, your lucky numbers, a horseshoe, or whatever you find to be most lucky. Thinly coat the symbol in superglue, nail polish, or modpodge.

As you cover it, say the follow,

"Luck be with me every day,
Bad luck I wash away.
With each sunrise, my good luck grows.
With these lucky hands, abundance and luck flows."

When dry, place the four leaf clover over the symbol and coat it so it’s completely sealed to the base. Repeat the above verse. Let dry again and repeat again with the coin and verse.

Let dry completely, then fill the soap dispenser with soap. Make sure that you keep the soap dispenser filled.

Notes:

  • For bar soap, do the same thing above with a soap dish.
  • A liquid soap dispenser is the most aesthetically pleasing solution to this spell. An alternative is to get a soap dish (or a ring dish) and place your liquid soap bottle on top of the dish. The result is the same.
  • You can use any kind of soap here. Bars of soap or liquid soap. That being said, any nut, berry, and flower related scents are associated with luck and growing abundance. So you can totally use your jasmine-ginger-pineapple-coconut hand soap.

Just Peachy Health Spell

Here’s a health spell intended to encourage continued long health or increase long bouts of healthiness. If you suffer from chronic illness, this spell may increase the period of time where the illness is less impactful on your life, such as a period of less pain or more time between depressive bouts.

It’s not intended to replace actual medical care. As always, seek out a physician or health care provider if you’re feeling unwell, in addition to any spell work you may cast.

What you’ll need:

  • Peach
  • Sharp knife or carving instrument
  • Pen and paper
  • Rosemary infused oil (optional)

First, find a fresh peach. As perfect as a peach as you can get. Clean it and then eat the peach as is – whole. (So don’t cut it into slices). Set aside the kernel.

Clean the kernel, leaving it to dry fully. This may take several weeks or even months. You may be able to speed it up by drying it out in a dehydrator or on a low heat in the oven for a long time. The choice is yours.

Once the kernel is fully dry, take a pencil and trace the outline of the kernel on a piece of paper with a pencil. Do it a few times so you have many different peach pit shapes to work on. On the paper, write your full name or initials in the kernel’s shape. Depending on the size of your name and/or the size of the kernel, this may take a few tries to get it just right. You’ll also want to practice drawing the infinity sign ∞ (an 8 laying on it’s side).

Once you think you’ve gotten the writing down, take a sharp knife and carve your name or full initials onto one side of the kernel. You’ll need a lot of patience and a steady hand. On the other side, carve the infinity sign.

Optionally, lightly rub some rosemary infused oil (such as olive oil) over the peach pit when done carving. Pat dry then set aside to let dry completely. This isn’t necessary, but it’s an added bonus.

Carry this peach pit with you or place it by, above, or under your bed.

“I Want to Go There” Spell

Ever want to do a bit of traveling, but you’re not sure how you’ll pull it off? Maybe finances aren’t great or you aren’t sure how you’d like to travel there. This spell is to encourage travel, through whatever means necessary.

It’s highly recommended to combine this spell with luck and money spells.

What you’ll need:

  • A computer or phone capable of pulling up google maps or some other mapping app. Alternatively, a paper map can be used.
  • A pencil poppet, with your name written on it.

First, create a poppet pencil. Get any regular pencil and use a pen or marker to write your name on it. You can add features to further represent yourself on the pencil as well.

Pull up the map with your current location. Now map the directions to your new destination. (It can be automatically routed.) Once you’re sure of where you’re going, zoom in and use your poppet pencil to follow the roads and pathways to your destination, walking the pencil along the screen like you might have walked a toy across a table as a child.

It may take a long time, depending on your destination. You can speed it up by zooming out a bit, but the more energy and time you put into the spell, the better it will work.

You may wish to make up a chant while you’re doing this. I might hum a well-known tune from that location or add in verbal money and luck spells while I’m at it. It depends on the destination. You can also use this verse:

"Here I am and gone I wish to be
Over the hills, valleys, rivers, and seas
I journey to [destination]
How I get there doesn't matter,
So long as I get started."

When completed, close down the maps and wait for the stars to align so you can go on the trip. Remember, this may not be the perfect scenario. You may be able to afford tickets to go there, for example, but maybe not to pay for a hotel. Plan accordingly.

When you do go, take your pencil poppet with you. You may be able to use it in additional low-key spells while on your travels to help yourself along.

Originally, this spell was a variation of the “Go the Fuck Away” spell, featured on tumblr.

Warm Welcome to 2020!

May your year be filled with glorious growth, spectacular successes, brilliant energies, great loves, few losses, and overflowing abundance!

Welcome to 2020! It’s great to be in a new year where you can give yourself a calendar-centric new page to your life.

As you can see above, my blessing for the year. Below, I’ll do a little introduction of myself (for new readers and old), a discussion of 2020’s goal and keywords, and then tackle my resolution. Not interested? That’s cool. Scroll to the end of this post for a spell to give your new year’s resolution a magical punch.

Introduction

Me: I’m Samantha, also known as This Crooked Crown. You can call me Samantha, Sam, Crown, or any variation of that. Pronouns are she/her/hers or they/their/them. I’m a professional witch, tarot card reader, seer, spirit walker, and writer. I’m a published author with my novel Spirit Walker and I’ve been practicing witchcraft for twenty five years this year. I started when I was nine!

My magical practice: I am a non-traditional secular polytheist animist witch. My witchcraft is largely folk magic, drawing from folklore, superstitions, and Anglo-Saxon and New England coastline traditions. Spirits are my forte, especially the non-human kinds, but I’ve been a seer for as long as I can remember.

Where I’m from: I hail from Rhode Island in the New England East Coast of the USA and live in a quirky house between two crossroads and alongside a nicknamed The Crossroads House. I live with my mother, my uncle, my brother The Necromancer, my 12 year old Siamese cat named Kiki, and a 14 year old grumpy box turtle named Tama.

Fun facts & details: I’m a Gemini Sun, Gemini Moon, and Tiger. I’m aligned with water first and foremost. I’m a hermit, a major introvert, and have a few chronic and mental illnesses that are often debilitating. I love water, the ocean, reading, libraries, learning, writing, folklore, stories, and curling up in something soft and warm. Autumn is my favorite time of year, but I live for summers where I can swim and be on the water every day. I will always stop to pet any cat willing to approach me.

What I do & where to find me: Etsy, Storenvy, patreon, tumblr, instagram, twitter, pinterest, facebook, and here, of course. I blog about witchcraft and magic. I sell my books, spells, readings, and crafted witchy goods, plus I also teach witchcraft lessons. I try to be open-minded, willing to help, and approachable to all.

That’s me! How many of you older readers learned something new?

2020’s Goal & Keywords

It is beyond weird to type the year “2020”. When I was a kid, I never would have imagined that I’d reach such an age. It seemed so far away! So Jetsons. But then again, I’m terrible when it comes to numbers and time is something that makes sense to other people, not me. I kind of exist in a “time is irrelevant” sort of lifestyle. Which is very liberating and very confusing at the same time. I have to have a calendar notification for things like putting out the trash, so maybe this is just a side effect of working from home? Who knows!

This year’s goal is growth.

Let’s grow and change as people. Let’s grow our minds, our hearts, our spirits. Let’s grow compassion for ourselves and others. Let’s grow positive changes for the future. Let’s grow opportunities for ourselves. Let’s grow abundance and wealth and power. Let’s look back in a year and go ‘we got somewhere’.

2020’s keywords are Sanctuary and Luck.

This year, there should be a major focus on making somewhere in your life a sanctuary. Your home, your bedroom, the local library, your office at work, your favorite coffee shop, the beach. Make that place yours, as much as you’re able. Own it. Take responsibility for it.

If it’s a public space, like the beach or library, join community groups or clean the beach drives to make it the best it can be. If it’s a space you share with others, like the office or a coffee shop, make it yours by greeting people, talking to those who work there, setting up your table or desk just so. If a coffee shop is your place, maybe invest in a travel mug, so you can mentally align with the whole “I am here so often, I even have my own mug for here”. If it’s work, deck out your space as much as possible, with things that make you feel warm and safe and secure enough to do your job 100% every day.

At home should be your sanctuary, but it might not be for a variety of reasons. If possible, make sure your place reflects who you are exactly. You’re a person who changes each and every day so your home will change too! Maybe the paint on the walls isn’t working for you. Maybe it’s time to take down those band posters since you’re not really into them anymore. Maybe you got that leather couch because you have dogs, but you never sit in them because the couches are so cold to the touch. Invest in those warm blankets and throw pillows. Put a new color on the walls. Change the curtains or make a quilt. This place should reflect you, as much as you’re able to make it reflect you. It should feel like home.

Sanctuary is more than just “I am safe in this place”. It should also be a feeling of security. Secure enough to be yourself. Secure enough to be happy. Secure enough to be and fill the space. Banish that unwanted shit from your life. It’s time to let it go.

Some things are outside of your direct control. Money, for example, has a way of making people feel very insecure. If this is you, then maybe this year is the year to try and make yourself more secure financially. Start a savings account or talk to your college loans and see if they’re willing to smaller payments so you can have more financial breathing space.

Family and friends too, has a way of making people feel insecure. Some families and friends just aren’t good and some people are just plain toxic for you. We all have them. This may be the time to finally go through your contact lists and delete some people. Unfriend that obnoxious aunt on facebook and block uncle bigotry from your lift. Chances are you can live without contact them and any news they or you need to share can probably be passed through other members of the family. Dump the friend who only comes around when they need something. You’re not a doormat. Don’t make things difficult on yourself just because etiquette or peer pressures says you should. You should be able to cultivate a space space – a sanctuary – in your own personal network of people.

You may also want to take this year to make somewhere safe for someone else. There’s lot of hatred right now in the world. A lot of fear. Let’s make this year the year of open hearts and minds. A place where religion, gender, skin color, race, and sexual orientation is accepted and normalized. It’s not an easy road, but it’s one that needs to be walked.

Luck is also a keyword this year. To me, this screams that you just need to turn your magic all the way the fuck up. Just be that witch 100% of the time.

You don’t need to have a reason to cast a luck spell. Make it so when you wash your face, you’re washing away the bad luck. Brush your hair chanting good luck is coming your way. Cast luck spells for all the endeavors. Job interview? Luck spell. Date? Luck spell. Party? Luck spell. Going for a walk? Luck spell. Luck isn’t always about hitting the lottery. It can be lucky to find a pretty stone on a walk or catch up with an old friend at the grocery store.

More than that, it’s also a good time to consider doing spells to achieve your goals or at least a clear direction for what you want. Not all of us have big, splashy dreams. Some people feel lost because they don’t know what they want. When that happens, it can feel like everything you do has no purpose or isn’t going to lead you anywhere worthwhile. If you feel this way, then it may be time to do a spell to find your own way or a new dream or goal. Or get a divination reading. Or at least make some sort of goal, like exercising once a week or read five books a year. Those goals may seem tiny or insignificant compared to a goal of publishing a novel or getting a PhD or buying a house, but it’s still a goal. It can still be accomplished. And it may lead to a milestone goal, such as buying a house. When one is lost, even those small goals can be HUGE accomplishments. Take pride in the things you accomplish, no matter how small. Even teeny, tiny steps forward are still steps forward.

My 2020 Resolution: Finish It!

The goal of 2020 is growth and my resolution is similar. I want 2020 to be the year of growth, but I also want it to be the year of finishing stuff. I have so much in the works right now. SO MUCH. I have five finished books in various stages of editing or are just straight-up finished and sitting, forgotten on a virtual shelf. FIVE. I’m also working on an oracle deck, revamping my witchcraft courses, and more behind the scenes stuff.

This year is going to be the year that shit will be finished. That the projects already started are going to be finished. A lot of times, I start things and never finish them because of fear. Fear of imperfect. Fear of not including all the things that need to be said. Fear or mistakes or failure. ADHD, OCD, and anxiety play a lot into this, but mostly, it’s just the fear of not being good enough. I’ve gotten to a point in my life where I can routinely push past that (after some procrastination, so it’s a work in progress thing).

BTW, that’s my suggestion for overcoming things. Spite and understanding in equal measures. Like, I understand why I leave things hanging and I also want to drop-kick that fear in the face. How dare it stop me? I’m going to prove that fear and myself wrong by… doing exactly what I need to do to spite it. My brain’s a fun place sometimes.

So year’s goals are all about growing and becoming, but it’s also about finishing and achieving. It’s going somewhere, it’s doing something, it’s getting shit done, but finishing what I’ve started.

I imagine some of you are in the same boat, so I invite you to join me on this little adventure. Let’s arm ourselves with a shield of spite and a sword of determination. Let’s wield the magics of getting shit done and I’ve got this. Let’s shout our war-cry of “fuck this shit!” Let’s defeat the hoards of haters and journey through the lands of self-doubt and fear, following the road paved with good intentions, to defeat the final boss known as the dreaded To Do List.

(Everything sounds more epic when you make it an adventure. Try it next time you go grocery shopping or to the gym. It can be a wild ride and shake up even the worst days. It’s like trying to say ‘bubbles’ in an angry voice. Impossible to stay in a bad mood and yet weirdly satisfying.)

The Spell

Okay, if you skipped to the end, hi! If you read the whole post, then wow and thanks for reading my rambling! Either way, here’s your spell.

New Year’s Resolution Self-Dedication Spell

This spell’s intended goal is to turn your regular ol’ new year’s resolution into a magical dedication to yourself. A magical promise. Here’s what you’ll need.

Ingredients:

  • An item you touch every single day (your phone, hair brush, keys, the fridge)
  • Citrus (an orange, for example)
  • Your new year’s resolution written on paper
  • Water

Write down your new year’s resolution on a slip of paper.

Fill a jar or cup with water. Ideally, it should be solar water (water infused with a full day of sunshine), but it can be moon water or even just regular tap water.

Zest the orange into the water. If you have no idea what zesting is, I’ll explain. Essentially, you take your orange (or whatever citrus you’re using) and you take a knife or vegetable peeler, and you peel a sliver of the rind or skin of the citrus fruit. It doesn’t need to be a big or deep sliver. You’re aiming for the peel rather than the fruit or the membrane around the fruit (the white stuff in an orange), but if you get some of the fruit or membrane, that’s ok. I’d add seven pieces of zest to the water, but you can do as much or as little as you’d like. Alternatively, you can use a citrus extract, a citrus essence, or a citrus essential oil.

Now add the paper with your resolution into the water. Allow to sit, at least twenty minutes (for the year 2020). If you’re using this spell at any other time, I’d recommend seven hours, for luck. But you can leave it for any period of time that feels magically important to you.

While you wait, it’s time to consider a magical symbol. You can make a sigil from the new year’s resolution with any method you like. Or you can pick a magical symbol that holds importance to you (like a pentacle, arrow, cross, etc). You can also draw any symbol that represents your resolution, like a graduation cap for graduating college, a dumbbell for the gym, or a book for reading more. You could also just write out your new year’s resolution in words or even abbreviate it. Or you can mix and match the aforementioned ideas to come up with your own little symbol.

You may also want to take this time to lightly cleanse the object you’re enchanting. Not enough of a cleansing to wipe away any previous enchantment, but enough to serve as a refresh or breath of fresh air. I tend to use bell chimes for this, but to each their own. It’s a completely optional step though.

Once the time’s up, using your finger, a paintbrush, or a wand, draw or write your chosen phrase or image onto the surface of the chosen object with the orange water. Take your time and say the resolution aloud as you write or draw.

When done, say the following:

"Enchanted now you are,
Bespelled you will be,
You'll keep me to my promise
Of [your new year's resolution].
With my breath, I seal this spell
And set myself my goal.
One I will achieve,
As long as this spell you hold."

Now take a deep breath and exhale it over the drawn surface.

That’s it! You’re done. Every time you touch the object, you should feel a pull to achieve your resolution. You can add a line to the verse to give yourself a punishment if you don’t achieve your resolution, but I don’t like to punish myself for not doing something, because life happens. You do you though.

You can wipe down the object later or clean it as normal. Just wait at least 20 minutes (in 2020) or at least 7 minutes (any other time) to do so.

Does that spell look great but don’t want to cast it yourself? Contact me and I can cast the spell for you. Details here.

Also, there’s a bunch of spells ready to be cast for you in the Buy A Spell section, including a 2020 New Year Ritual that’s pretty extensive and one I’m pretty proud of.

That’s it! I hope your new year is absolutely wonderful!

Increasing Luck Candle Spell

This is a simple candle spell, but perfect for people who like to do the same spell often. It’ll give you a boost of luck each time.

Ingredients:

  • A candle (your choice of color).

Pick a color candle that feels energetic or lucky to you. Yellow or gold is popular, but red or orange is a good choice too.

Sit in the dark with the candle in front of you. Light it and say the following,

Fire before me,

Increase my luck in leap and bounds,

For long as this candle is around.

Burn the candle for seven minutes, sitting with it the whole time. You can repeat the spell again if you want, or just simply sit and think about the kind of things good luck can bring.

After the seven minutes are over, blow out the candle and keep it. Next time you want to shift your luck, light the candle again, repeat the verbal spell, and burn the candle for seven minutes.

Notes:

  • When you burn the candle anymore, save the wax to make into a new candle.
  • You can dress the candle, if you like.

Money Healing Spell

This is a spell to help alleviate medical bills and bring funds in for medicine and so forth. It’s specifically set for that.

Ingredients:

  • Mint (any kind, but common mint is ideal)
  • Cinquefoil (aka five finger grass)
  • Apple (any kind, whatever feels most useful for the spell)
  • Rue
  • Rose petals (any kind, try color symbolism or floriography)
  • Water
  • A place to plant or bury something
  • A sunny day

Gather your ingredients and bring them outside on a sunny day.

Sitting in the sun, cut open the apple in half. Sprinkle the interior of the apple halves with the rest of the herbs. As you do this, imagine and/or speak how healthy and debt free you are and will continue to be.

Bury the apple halves in the ground or in a flower pot. As you bury them, say something like this:

I buried this apple

To bury my debts

As this apple decays, my debts are resolved

As this apple decays, my health grows ever stronger

As this apple decays, my finances grow ever stronger

Water the ground, slow and steady. Repeat the above verse as you water it. Keep watering the area once a month, ideally on the days you pay your health bills.

Notes:

  • You don’t have to speak the spell loudly. You can even clearly speak the spell in your head.
  • You can do the spell again and again every spring, if you want to.

Tealight Coin Money Spell

Ready for the easiest money spell ever? Small but mighty, this spell is designed for even the most secretive witches or beginners can do it in fifteen minutes or less.

Ingredients:

  • White tealight candle
  • A shiny penny or some other coin
  • A tray, burn plate, or fire-safe thing (see notes)

Lift your tealight candle out of the little tin or plastic cup it’s sitting in. You might need to pull it by the wick to get it out, but it should just slid out.

Take your coin and rub it between your hands, like you’re trying to warm your hands up with the coin in your palms. As you do this, say or think of the money you want to come into your life. Think something specific and attainable like “come on rent money” rather than “come on winning lottery numbers”. Put a lot of energy and emphasis on that wish.

(Why is rent money is more attainable than lotto numbers? Primarily for two reasons. Prayers, wishes, and other spells are often thought or said for over the lottery. That’s a lot of magic pulling on the same thing and luck factors in as well. Rent money is more attainable because someone might loan you the money or you get an extra shift at work or something. There’s more chances for that to happen. That being said, it won’t hurt to cast a spell for the lottery, just don’t be surprised if it doesn’t work.)

Now put the coin under the candle inside the tin or plastic candle holder and put the candle back on top of the coin. Light the candle and say or think,

“As you burn, my money will come.

When you die, my money has arrived.”

Carry the penny / coin with you. You can reuse that coin or keep it as a lucky coin, if the spell works. If the spell doesn’t work, give or spend the coin (or use it in a cursing spell). You might need to scrap the wax off to spend it, but don’t keep it.

Notes:

  • When it comes to fire plate for this spell, it’s really more about catching spilling wax. So pick something, like a ceramic plate, to put under the candle. The coin probably gives the tealight candle just enough rise to make spilling wax a problem. If you’re doing this spell outside or you have some other sort of candle plate or whatever, then don’t worry about this.
  • Beginner practitioners of candle magic probably will sooner rather than later hit up your local dollar store or used goods store for a simple ceramic plate. It doesn’t need to be fancy. It’s just there to catch incense ash and candle wax, but that plate can be a lifesaver when it comes to clean up. Seriously. 1000% recommend.

Apple Hex Breaker

There are thousands of ways to break a curse. But the other day I was thinking about curse breaking with ordinary items. The humble egg is the most common hex breaking tool in your average kitchen. But what about an apple?

Apples are great for love and healing spells. They’re used in binding spells too. And no one can forget the apple curse that trapped Snow White. But breaking a curse with an apple? Absolutely.

I can think of several ways to make this work, the most obvious being simply using the apple as a poppet – which is actually something of a traditional substitute. But we’re going to go a different way with a hex breaking spell today.

This spell is intended to break a hex or curse that you think has been placed on you. With an ingredient as common as an apple, you can easily do this unhexing even if you’re unsure that you’ve been hexed.

Ingredients:

  • A firm sour apple or crab apple
  • An onion
  • A sharp, large knife
  • Heavy duty cutting board
  • Skewer or string

Get yourself either a crab apple or a firm, sour apple. Small green apples tend to be more sour, so aim for one of those. You might find the apples you need under “baking apples” rather than “eating apples”. Wash your apple well and dry it off.

Set your cutting board up and make sure your knife is sharp enough to go entirely through the apple with one slice.

Breathe across the apple and rub it over your heart. Take your time with this. As you breathe across the apple, concentrate on breathing out negativity and any spiritual gunk you have. The intent here is to connect yourself to the apple so the curse is passed to the apple.

Once you think you’re ready, cut the onion in half. Then, with the same knife on the same cutting board, chop or slice the apple in half in a single, powerful move.

Rub the onion’s cut side on the apple’s cut side. Then skewer or tie the onion to half of the apple. Essentially, you’re creating two half apple and half onion.

Take the apple-onions, touching only the onion sides, to a crossroads far away from your house, workplace, or anywhere you frequently visit. Leave or bury the apple-onions at the crossroads.

Notes:

  • The onion here is serving as a binding agent and a purifying agent. If you can’t touch onions, garlic or similar noxious purifiers will work.
  • Black string is probably best for this, but a wooden skewer or even toothpicks will work.
