Fire Guardian (Spell Saturday #21)

This is one method of creating a magical guardian construct from fire. This is a permanent spell with a secondary activation for the construct summoning. Essentially, you can the spell now and you’ll cast a second spell to summon them to your side.

A magical construct is a somewhat sentient being created through your magic and energy. You forge it, pouring your energy into a clear image in your mind, creating it from yourself. You can read more about magical constructs and servitors here.

You can use this for any kind of fire construct but we’re aiming for a guardian and protection construct here.

You’ll need:

  • Fire
  • A comfortable place to sit

Ahead of time, you’ll want to think of what kind of guardian you want. Do you want a lion made of lion that will guard you and keep you warm at night? A fire wolf? A phoenix? Even a simple ball of fire works well. Use your imagination or look up pictures online for inspiration. Even if you’re unsure of what you want them to appear like, that’s OK. You can still cast the spell. Be sure to read the whole spell through. There’s more questions you’ll need to answer during the spell.

Get yourself a fire. A fire pit or fire place is a great option but a large candle will work just as well. Sit somewhere comfortable  with the fire within reach. You should be close enough to feel the heat but not so close you’ll burn yourself.

Now stare at the fire until you focus only on that. Let your mind go blank and only start at the fire. Now, with the fire solely in your mind and burned (metaphorically) in your vision, close your eyes.

Very clearly think of the physical form you want the construct to take. If you haven’t decided, then let some images come to you. Push your energy out to the fire (not the candle or wood the fire is on but the fire itself) and pull the fire’s energy towards you. Use that fire, in your mind, to make the construct.

If you’re not much for envisioning, you can speak out loud what you want your guardian to look like. Tell the fire to come to you and try to push towards the fire without moving.

spells and herbs

Once you have the construct’s image very clear in your mind and you’re happy with it’s appearance, now tell it what it’s job is. Tell the construct that it’s job is to protect you, to come when you call. Tell it to guard you home, to watch over you when you sleep, to keep you safe from spirits and other practitioners. You may want to tell it that it will serve only you or protect your loved ones. What you tell it is up to you. This is your formation process so be sure to tell it firmly, in detail, what you want of it.

Now tell it how it powers itself. Is the power derived from you? Does its power from from fire itself? This decision matters when considering the activation spell. If fire it the power source, the construct will be more self-aware and independent but will need fire to surge into being and be able to use it’s abilities. If it’s derived from you, you’ll have more control but you’ll be exhausted after summoning them. You can do a mesh of both, if you like. The construct lives in fire though so don’t be surprised if they appear at random when working with fire.

Be sure to include the activation spell. The secondary spell should be something that you create yourself. Maybe you need to light a candle or flick on a lighter to give the entity power to manifest. A couplet is usually easier and more on the go but probably will only be useful if you’re construct derives power from you. A combination is also possible. It’s up to you to decide. Make sure that the activation spell is something that you can remember. A couplet like “[Name], being forged of fire, come to my side and protect me” is a good basic couplet.

Now that you’ve told the construct it’s job, how it feeds itself (powers itself), and how you’ll summon it, you’ll need to give it a name. This is something that’s private, personal, between the two of you. I give my constructs two names – their true one which only I know of and a nickname which I use when speaking to them around others. Their true name is the one to focus on. You can use their true name to force them to do something, which is especially useful to avoid rampancy or them attacking the wrong people.

That’s it! You’ve created a fire guardian. I highly recommend you write down or drawn you fire guardian so you can always refer to the impressions and images you have of them. Constructs are largely mutable, especially when they don’t have a physical host like the fire guardian, so don’t be surprised if they appear somewhat different every time you summon them.

Alternative version:

This spell can also be used, with slight variations as a spirit guide meeting spell. A spirit guide has many definitions but, largely, is a spirit who want to help you in some capacity, whether to offer advice, hope, or education. A spirit guide is a useful spirit friend to have.

If you’re looking to meet a spirit guide, think or say clearly “I want to meet a spirit of fire willing to help and guide me”. Repeat this every few minutes until you get an impression or sense that someone else is with you. In all likelihoods, this is a spirit of fire willing to help you. Ask it questions and see if you can strike up a partnership.

Notes:

  • This spell is slightly dangerous. Not just because of the magical construct and spirit contact but because of the proximity of the fire. Be safe and give this a miss if you’re unsure you can pull it off. Don’t hurt yourself.
  • Use fire-safety. Keep fire-killing items around you during this spell in case things go wild.
  • Do NOT do this spell when you’re tired. Do it only when you’re awake and have a lot of energy. You don’t want to fall asleep with the fire going.

Happy casting!

Charm for Victory [Spell Saturday #20]

Sometimes you just need to win. Whether you’re at a sporting event or a court case or it’s just trivia night at the local bar or a big exam is coming up, victory is sometimes necessary. This will help.

You’ll need:

  • Bay laurel
  • Ginger
  • Chamomile
  • Protea
  • Oak leaves
  • Betony
  • Cinquefoil (Five Finger Grass)
  • Clover
  • Sturdy Green or gold bag

Collect your herbal ingredients and grind them into a powder. As you grind them, put a lot of energy and effort into it, more so then usual. Work up a sweat. When you’re happy with it, place all of the ingredients inside a sturdy green or gold bag. Carry with you when you need victory.

Notes:

  • The easiest material to make the bag out of it felt. Leather, wool, canvas, or dense cotton also works.

Happy casting!

Fiery Fertility Ritual [Spell Saturday #19]

A fertility ritual for a romantic night of fun, happy sex. This ritual is intended for adults only, could take several hours, and has the purpose of impregnation.

This ritual is NOT intended to replace medical procedures and should only be performed with your partner’s permission, consent, and enthusiasm.

You’ll need:

  • A fire
  • Red wine or beverage enjoyed by all parties
  • Fruits, fruit, nuts, and fresh cheese.
  • With a consenting partner, set up a little date night in. Craft your fire out of fruit-bearing wood, like apple wood.

Before a fire, set up your ritual area. Ideally, this should be a place where sex will be comfortable for everyone. This is a spell of partnership so all participants should be involved in the crafting of this area. The food should be placed in a communal and easily reached place but not in between the lovers. You should pour your partner(s) drinks for them – don’t pour for yourself – and likewise, they should pour for you.

You and your partner(s) should take your drinks in hand, take a sip, raise the glass, and say:

“Together, we’ll craft a fire between us,

Passion that will not be diminished soon,

Happiness will follow us, flow around us, and into us

It is life, we create here tonight

And now we’ll begin.”

Then proceed into whatever romantic or sexy plans you have in mind.

Later, when everyone has been made satisfied and you’re ready to clean up, collect the ashes from the fire (or wax from the candle, or what-have-you) and put it in a little pouch and stick this under your bed(s). Any uneaten food or drink can be saved for later but only the people who were involved in the spell should eat it. If you don’t or can’t save the food/drink, bury or pour it in a garden. If that’s not possible (due to expense, not safe for the environment, whatever) then wrap the food in a paper towel before throwing away in the garbage.

Note:

  • The fire can be a bon fire, a fire pit, or even in the fireplace. If none of these are available or you’re not using firewood to create your fire, a scented candle will work suitably as well. Recommended scents would be fruits, vanilla, chocolate, or florals. Make sure the scent is pleasing to both partners. You can mix it up with some coffee or forest scents too, if necessary. Want to double up on the spell? Write the verbal verse on paper and put it in the fire.
  • While this spell is simple, there are a lot of additions that could be added. The beverages and food can be enchanted, for example.
  • You don’t need to speak in harmony together. You can just repeat the lines to one another.
  • This spell is designed for fertility but isn’t required. You can easily use the spell to encourage a happy relationship rather than conceiving a child.
  • Keep fire safety in mind!

Happy casting!

Love By the Moon Spell [Spell Saturday #18]

On a night where the moon is particularly bright or beautiful, hold a bowl or glass of water so the moon is reflected in the surface of the water. The water and bowl/glass should be clean and drinkable.

Now, while the reflection of the moon is in your hands,

“Under the light of this moon, I call to one who can love me

One who be honest and true, someone who will love me with their free heart

Look upon this moon and hear my call

Come to me and let us meet soon

By the light of the next full moon.”

Now drink the water completely.

Notes:

You don’t have to be outside for this to work. A window will work just as well.

This spell is NOT designed for a specific individual but instead to call a potential love interest that is not entangled in other romantic interests. Someone who is ready and willing to try their hand at a relationship with you.

If you don’t meet anyone new, try it again during the next moon.

Happy casting!

Money Via Spirits Spell [Spell Saturday #17]

Want to see an immediate windfall of money as well as reduce your debts? Maybe you need to talk to your local spirits for aid. This is a rather involved spell but works wonders.

Specifically, the spirits you’ll want to look for are market or commerce spirits so picking a crossroads where businesses are flourishing is absolutely ideal.Spirits that care about money and business are the kind you’re looking for.

You’ll need:

  • Red candle
  • Green candle
  • Black candle
  • Gold or yellow candle
  • Handful of coins
  • Cinnamon, dried
  • Cinquefoil (Five finger grass), dried
  • Basil, dried
  • Nutmeg, dried
  • Orange or citrus zest, dried
  • Dirt from a crossroads that has a spirit presence
  • Lighter or matches

Here’s the spell. Make sure to fill in the appropriate information in the [brackets] such as how quickly you need the money and the minimum amount of money you need.

  1. Go to a nearby crossroads and collect some dirt. You don’t need much.
  2. Grind the herbs and dirt into a fine powder. You do not need much of the powder.
  3. Light the red candle and place the coins around it.
  4. Light black candle (do not light it from the red candle) and acknowledge any debts or bad luck you have. You can acknowledge this verbally or write it down or simply think of the bills and debts you have. You can also think of any upcoming big expenses you wish to avoid.
  5. Now light the gold/ yellow candle and the green candle. Think or acknowledge all the new money you want to come in immediately. Say out loud, think in your head, or envision new probable ways of getting money to you right now. A check from the insurance company, a raise at work, family sending you money, finding money in the wash, etc. You can throw winning the lottery in there but you’re better off also mentioning more common ways of money getting into your hands now.
  6. Blow out the black candle and set aside.
  7. Sprinkle the herbal powder over the remaining lit candles.
  8. Now say the following:

“Spirits of the crossroad

Listen to my plea

Bring me money quickly

Within the next [time-frame]

Bring me at least [specific minimum amount or enough to pay specific bills]

With this spell and your aid I will succeed

So bring me my money quickly.”

8. Blow out all the candles and dump any remaining powder and dirt back at the crossroads. Leave the coins at the crossroads as a thank you offering.

Notes:

  • Crossroads are something like a watercooler for spirits. While many spirits reside at the crossroads, many are just visitors. And not all spirits are going to be willing to help. Be sure you can end the spell or dismiss any spirit you don’t want near you during this spell.
  • Tealights are the best choice here for candle sizes. It saves time and you don’t waste a whole candle for a five minute spell.
  • You may wish to revise the wording to better accommodate your relationship with your local spirits.

Happy casting!

Attract Affection & Romance Spell Jar [Spell Saturday #16]

arsp 03

This jar spell is meant to attract affection and/or romance. It can be used to bring willing romantic partners to you or encourage new friends or better family relations. The best part of this jar spell? It can sit right out in the open and, depending on the ingredients, can be a long-term sustained spell.

What you’ll need:

  • A jar, bottle, or some other clear container that can seal (A mason jar, pickle jar, water bottle, etc.)
  • Herbs & ingredients for your purpose (see below)
  • Key items you associate with your purpose (A friendship bracelet to rekindle a friendship long past, a business card from a place you’d like to hang out in with your new friends, a rose for romance, photo of your family to boost happy home spells, quartz for more power, etc)
  • Key ingredients for what you want to happen (Coffee so you go out on coffee dates, coaster from a club you’d like to go to with new friends, etc.)
  • Filler such as sand, corn flour, ashes, saw dust, sugar, etc. (optional)
  • Funnel for pouring ingredients (optional)

Herbs and ingredients to use will depend largely on your personal practice and paradigm. Select items that has some sort of folkloric meaning akin to your purpose or that item reminds you of friendship or love.

arsp 01

Mason jars are very popular but bottles like this work well.

Here’s a short list for romance:

  • chocolate or cocoa
  • roses
  • apples
  • carnations
  • aster
  • jasmine

A short list for friendship:

  • buttercups
  • lilacs
  • vanilla
  • oranges
  • tea
  • daisies

Filler ingredients are good for people who want a full-looking jar and don’t have enough ingredients to add to the jar or want to hide ingredients from view. I’d recommend picking a filler that means something to you. I’d pick sand, for example, but you might pick campfire ash so you can find camping buddies, or sugar to sweeten current friendships and find new non-toxic friends.

  1. Cleanse your jar and empower it with your purpose. This mean you can add energy to it, tell it your purpose in a couplet or verbally, or hold the jar and envision the future you want this jar to help you achieve happening now.
  2. Gather all your ingredients together and layer them in the jar however you wish. Be as artful or not as you like. As you add them, you can say either verbally or in your head what you’re adding them to the jar for.
  3. Once you’ve run out of ingredients or you’re happy with the jar, go ahead and close it up.

arsp 02

Midway through the bottle

Notes:

  • This spell will work best if you carefully think about your purpose before casting the spell and use care in picking your ingredients.
  • Many jar spells require shaking to “wake up” or empower the spell. This one doesn’t but you can shake it if you want.
  • You can add ingredients whenever you want but don’t take out an ingredient.
  • If you do, just scrap the whole jar and start again. If your ingredients start to get moldy, toss them, wash the jar out (boiling water, soap and water, salt water, or vinegar in any combination.)
  • When you want the spell to end, just toss the ingredients (don’t bury them) and wash the jar out.
arsp 04

Fits in well with the other stuff, doesn’t it?

That’s it! Happy casting!

Safety in Love Spell (Spell Saturday #15)

Being single and looking has its dangers. There’s always the chance of some creep not taking “no” for an answer. There’s always a chance of putting yourself in danger.

There’s also always the risk that someone else is using a love spell on you. If you suspect a spell against you of any kind, immediately do curse-breaking and cleansing spells. But preventive measures will help too.

A spell to protect someone from love spells and other dating dangers.

You’ll need:

  • Shells of nuts (almond, acorn, pistachio, etc.)
  • Dried fruit (strawberries, mango, raisins, etc.)
  • Onion, dried
  • Parsley, dried
  • Garlic, dried
  • Peppers or paprika, dried
  • Salt
  • Rice
  • Rue, dried
  • Sandalwood (optional)
  • Ashes from your fireplace in your home (see notes)

Collect your ingredients and grind them into a fine powder. As you do this, concentrate on you going out, having a good time, and being safe. Think of love spells being absorbed by the charm. Think of returning home happy and healthy. Once they’re powdered as much as possible, place them in a silk bag and carry this with you.

Making a second or additional copy of the charm during the same time using the same ingredients could be extremely useful so you can leave one at work, home, in your car, or what-have-you.

Notes:

While ashes from a fireplace in your home is ideal, you can just as easily use ashes from an incense stick or a bit of wax collected from a burned candle. It simply has to be from a fire that was burned then extinguished in your house. That bit is the important part.

A silk bag is recommended but definitely not necessary. You can easily omit the bag and sprinkle the powder in an unused pocket, at the bottom of your shoes, or even keep it in a ziploc bag or bottle.

Sandalwood can be omitted. It’s not integral to the spell but rather is used to keep spirits at bay.

Powdering nut shells can be difficult. Use a food processor or buy powdered from the flour and baking section of a grocery store. You can leave any of the ingredients whole, if you like but powder is easier to keep around.

Happy casting and stay safe!

Vanishing Spell [Spell Saturday #7]

While the title and purpose is loosely inspired by the Vanishing Spell from the Harry Potter series, this spell is a This Crooked Crown original.

The spell is not design to make something literally and physical vanish before your eyes but it is intended to remove the object in question from your life and give it back to the world around you. Essentially, it will banish something from your life and scatter it to the world around you.

Because of the specific purpose of this spell, it might not be the best sort of spell to use to banish something from your life like a curse or ghost. Instead, it may be more useful to speed up the selling of a particular item, making a house guest that has stayed too long go away, or something similar. This isn’t intended to be used in a baneful fashion but rather as a dismissal of the object in question.

Make sure you read the whole spell, including the notes, all the way through before attempting. The structure of this spell is specific for reasons outlined below.

Candle Smoke

Vanishing Spell by This Crooked Crown

What you’ll need:

  • Magical circle creating materials
  • Object you want to make disappear or a representation of it
  • 9 white candles and candle-lighting stuff

1.Get your object or the representation of it. If you want to make a non-physical object disappear, like guilt or a bad habit. Write down the thing or place something that represents and reminds you of the thing you want vanished.

2. Cast a circle. Your method of casting a magical circle can depend entirely on your paradigm and purpose. The circle needs to be big enough to hold the object or representation of the object you want to make disappear.

3. Light your white candles and place them outside of the magical circle.

4. Now say or think the following very clearly. Make sure you blow out every single candle at the “as this fire vanishes into smoke” line. This must be done entirely before the final line is said.

[Object name] stands before me

I want it gone.

Disappear [object] from my life

Scatter to the winds and be sent elsewhere

As this fire vanishes into smoke

[blow out the candles]

[Object] vanishes from my life

5. Now you can clean up the spell, starting with the candles, then the magical circle, and finally the object itself. You may wish to burn the object, especially if it’s something that’s written on a piece of paper. Otherwise, make sure you remove the object from your sight and as close to a door if possible if you can’t just outright throw the object out.

Notes:

  • I am not one who casts magical circles. Outside of specific spells, I almost never cast a magical circle. I don’t see the need of it in my practice. Your style of practice is probably different though. There are hundreds of ways of casting  a magical circle. Pick the method you like best. I usually draw a circle in the dirt or with salt, sugar, or chalk.
  • You absolutely DO need a magical circle for this spell and it definitely should NOT be cast on a surface without doing the magical circle first. If you can’t or don’t want to do a magical circle, you’ll need a very empty space with nothing surrounding the object by a few good feet in all directions. Use common sense here folks. The spell is designed and exists on the theory that it can make stuff go away. So why not contain it in a specific space? An unconstrained spell of this nature might banish stuff you do want in your life like a favorite altar piece, your good coat, or your cat. Risk it if you want but you’ve been warned.
  • I specify nine white candles as nine is a popular number for rebirth or opening new doors in your practice. You can also use the same number of candles that you have number of exists in a room. For example, if you have two windows, a chimney, sink drain, and two doors in your room, you’d need five candles. You can always use just a single candle, if you prefer.

Break That Luck Candle Spell [tumblr repost] (Spell Saturday #5)

il_570xn-888729652_ja2bSometimes we just get some terrible bouts of luck that just needs to end and go away. Here’s how.

What you’ll need:

  • Candle. A smaller red, white, gold, or black candle is suggested. Comforting or cleansing scents optional.
  • Incense or aromatherapy oils in cleansing or comforting scents (optional)
  • Powdered good luck herbs (optional)
  • Good Luck dressing/ anointing oil (optional)
  1. Get your candle and charge it  with intent or visualize you goal. Alternative, just TELL the candle what you want to happen or carve it into the wax. This depends on your personal practice and if there’s enough space on the candle to even carve things into.
  2. (Optional) If you’re using scents in this spell, it’s recommended that you start with a cleansing scent and during the break in the spell, start a comforting scent.
  3. If you’ve got it, use a good luck oil to coat your candle. You can also roll the oiled candle in good luck herbs, if you like.
  4. Light your candle and chant:

Trouble has come my way,

Bad luck and bad times are bad friends

I turn them away. Unwelcomed and unwanted,

I break this cycle now.

[Blow out the candle. Take a deep breath and release it. Light any comforting scents now. Take some time to reflect that the bad luck’s gone now. Once ready, light it again, saying the following]

With this new flame, I bring good luck into my life

Good things, beneficial things, will happen

And when this candle died, my good luck will live on

[Let the candle burn out]

Examples of cleansing and comforting scents could be: Cleansing might be mint, citrus, sage, etc but comforting might might pumpkin, vanilla, or apple.

Examples of good luck herbs could be: Cinquefoil (five finger grass), clover, good luck iron cross, basil, allspice, cloves, ginger, wintergreen berries, star anise, bay, cinnamon, chamomile, mint, peppermint, or spearmint.

Your good luck dressing / anointing oil could be any recipe. I make up my own. You can simply soak some good luck herbs in oil for a few weeks or simmer them on the stove for a few hours in oil.

Why’s so much of this spell optional? Because of the structure of the spell, you have to breath, blow out, and relight the candle. That can be distressing if one has sensitivities to scents or smoke. So the scent aspect of this spell is optional but recommended.

Please use fire safety! Use small candles to shorten wait times when you’re waiting for candles to burn down. Don’t set yourself, your home, your loved ones, or a forest on fire.

Happy casting!

Horn and Stone Healing Spell [Spell Saturday #12]

This healing spell is useful for illnesses and diseases but can be tricky to procure the ingredients. While seeking medical attention when feeling ill is always recommended, sometimes you need just a little boost in healing.

Straight out of my personal spell books, this one’s a This Crooked Crown original.

Make sure to read the notes at the bottom for additional usages for this spell and its ingredients!

What you’ll need:

  • Bezoar or a regular garden or roadside rock
  • Powdered horn or piece of cattle bone
  • Iron
  • Rosemary
  • Basil
  • Coffee
  • Peppermint  and/or feverfew if feverish or cayenne pepper / paprika and cinnamon if chilled.
  • Bowl, dish, or disposable cloth
  1. Get your dish, bowl, or disposable cloth. Sprinkle the herbs and coffee at the bottom of the dish. Place in the iron.
  2. Now pick up your bezoar or garden rock. Holding it over the dish, sprinkle the powdered horn over bezoar / rock. If you’re using a cattle bone, just pass the bone over, around, and under the bezoar / rock. While doing this, think of how this rock will be able to heal and absorb the illnesses or diseases it comes into contact with. Think of the illness or disease leaving the patient and going into the rock. Imagine that when this happens the rock will get full, heavy, and cold.
  3. When you’re happy with your envisioning, place the bezoar / rock in bed with the patient. Usually under the pillow works but in between layers of a blanket would be good too. You could also hang it on the headboard or leave it on a bedside table very close to the patient. The most ideal way is to have the patient wear the stone but that’s not always possible or safe. Don’t put it under the patient. The bezoar / rock should be on the same level as the patient.
  4. Place the dish of herbs, iron, and powdered horn / cattle bone under the patient’s bed. It should rest directly under the patient while they sleep but if that’s not possible, place it by the end of the bed. Leave it uncovered.
  5. Change out the herbs and coffee as needed but don’t forget to add in the iron or the powdered horn / cattle bone.
  6. Once the patient has started to recovered, you can remove the bezoar / rock and powdered horn or cattle bone. You can keep both to cast the spell again at a later date but eventually both will become too saturated with magic or illness and must be disposed of. To do this, take both far away to a crossroads, graveyard, or abandoned place and bury it.
  7. You can keep the herbs under the bed until the patient has completely recovered. The herbs should be burned or buried in a different place than the bezoar / rock and powdered horn / cattle bone but similarly at a crossroad far away from the patient.

Notes:

  • This spell calls for a lot of hard to find ingredients. Substitutes are probably the way to go for most people here. Picking up a rock from beside the road, a died piece of bone from a steak, and a low-grade nail would work well in place of the above ingredients.
  • This spell is unique in that you can absolutely keep the bezoar / rock or powdered horn / cattle bone and use them as ritual healing tools. You would just need to deeply cleanse the illnesses and diseases from them. I don’t recommend this unless you’re really sure of your cleansing abilities.
  • The herbs and coffee can be used to divine the cause of the illness, the likelihood of the patient’s recovery, the details of the patient’s illness or recovery, and the patient’s immediate future. You can do this by lightly shaking the dish and looking for patterns and symbols, not unlike tea reading.
  • The iron piece can be kept and carried by the patient to guard against relapses.

That’s it. Happy casting!
