Fiery Fertility Ritual [Spell Saturday #19]

A fertility ritual for a romantic night of fun, happy sex. This ritual is intended for adults only, could take several hours, and has the purpose of impregnation.

This ritual is NOT intended to replace medical procedures and should only be performed with your partner’s permission, consent, and enthusiasm.

You’ll need:

  • A fire
  • Red wine or beverage enjoyed by all parties
  • Fruits, fruit, nuts, and fresh cheese.
  • With a consenting partner, set up a little date night in. Craft your fire out of fruit-bearing wood, like apple wood.

Before a fire, set up your ritual area. Ideally, this should be a place where sex will be comfortable for everyone. This is a spell of partnership so all participants should be involved in the crafting of this area. The food should be placed in a communal and easily reached place but not in between the lovers. You should pour your partner(s) drinks for them – don’t pour for yourself – and likewise, they should pour for you.

You and your partner(s) should take your drinks in hand, take a sip, raise the glass, and say:

“Together, we’ll craft a fire between us,

Passion that will not be diminished soon,

Happiness will follow us, flow around us, and into us

It is life, we create here tonight

And now we’ll begin.”

Then proceed into whatever romantic or sexy plans you have in mind.

Later, when everyone has been made satisfied and you’re ready to clean up, collect the ashes from the fire (or wax from the candle, or what-have-you) and put it in a little pouch and stick this under your bed(s). Any uneaten food or drink can be saved for later but only the people who were involved in the spell should eat it. If you don’t or can’t save the food/drink, bury or pour it in a garden. If that’s not possible (due to expense, not safe for the environment, whatever) then wrap the food in a paper towel before throwing away in the garbage.

 

Note:

  • The fire can be a bon fire, a fire pit, or even in the fireplace. If none of these are available or you’re not using firewood to create your fire, a scented candle will work suitably as well. Recommended scents would be fruits, vanilla, chocolate, or florals. Make sure the scent is pleasing to both partners. You can mix it up with some coffee or forest scents too, if necessary. Want to double up on the spell? Write the verbal verse on paper and put it in the fire.
  • While this spell is simple, there are a lot of additions that could be added. The beverages and food can be enchanted, for example.
  • You don’t need to speak in harmony together. You can just repeat the lines to one another.
  • This spell is designed for fertility but isn’t required. You can easily use the spell to encourage a happy relationship rather than conceiving a child.
  • Keep fire safety in mind!

Grace Under Fire Potion

Sometimes, you just need to keep your cool despite all the stress and annoyances in life. This potion can help you do just that.

You’ll need:

  • Saucepan
  • Open flame (see notes)
  • 1 pint Purified water
  • 3 parts Ginger
  • 1 part Rosewater or Pink roses
  • Pinch Allspice
  • Pinch Betony
  • Pinch Valerian
  • Pinch Sage

Over an open flame, simmer all the ingredients together. Don’t allow to boil. Set aside and let cool to drinking temperature. You can serve over ice.

Consumption tips:

Taste-wise, this isn’t all that great. You may want to play around with the recipe a bit until you find something tasty.

Notes:

  • Ginger ale, candied ginger, or ginger beer can be exchanged for ginger
  • Candied rose petals are a good alternative
  • Valerian and sage can be omitted if desired. Betony is essential.
  • You can make this in two parts, a tisane with allspice, betony, valerian, and sage followed by a rosewater and ginger shot. Or, you can drink the tisane and eat candied rose petals and candied ginger.
  • Open flame is necessary for this specific potion. Stove top flame is perfect for this but you could heat this up over a candle or campfire stove.
  • Remember fire safety!

13 Ways to Break a Curse

1 Smoke cleansing

The best method to use smoke cleansing to break a curse is a two step process. First, pick a non-toxic hex-breaking herb(s) and burn that, waving the smoke around the cursed person, object, or place. Then repeat with a cleansing herb selection. Incense made with or using the scent of hex-breaking herbs will also work.

2 Living Water

Water universally is used in witchcraft and magical practices. The key is to select living water such as a river, ocean, and so on to allow the curse to wash away.

Want a more ritualized version? Go to the ocean and stand in the water while the sun rises. Allow the waves to hit you as many times as you need to feel freed from the curse. Some say being hit seven times with a wave breaks bad luck.

3 Bath Water

Baths are not only relaxing but they can un-hex you too. Create a bath with non-toxic hex-breaking herbs. Soak in the bathwater and scrub your body. Drain the tub, run the bath again this time with relaxing and cleansing herbs. Soak in this water and let yourself drift off, hex-free.

4 Mop Water or Floor Wash

Infuse your cleaning water with hex-breaking herbs to really get in the nitty-gritty. A pinch of herbs for a bucket of water can go a long way and can be used on most surfaces. Don’t forget to wash doors, windows, walls, ceilings, and floors too. Test the water in small areas first in case of staining.

5 Drink it

Make a potion with non-toxic non-allergenic hex-breaking herbs. Drink this before bed. In the morning, make sure you urinate first thing when you wake up. Then shower and wash all your bedding.

6 Egg Method

Get an egg and roll it over your body. Get as much of your body as you can, especially the palms of your hands, your head, gentiles, torso, and the soles of your feet. Then take the egg to a crossroad away from your house and smash it on the ground. Leave in a different direction from which you came.

7 Pass It On

Pass the curse on to someone else. You can use a person, a poppet, or even a rock as your subject. You’ll have to have a pretty good idea what the curse is and you’ll probably need a pretty good idea on how to manipulate energy or spells in order to push the spell onto someone else but it’s definitely doable.

A lit candle can also be used to pass the curse on. Then simply blow the candle out and toss it in the trash to be done with it.

8 Reverse It

Reversing the curse or sending it back on the sender is a popular choice. Usually a mirror or reflective surface is used for this. Ideally, you’ll look at the mirror and pronounce that the spell once cast on you is now returned to sender. There are lots of spells of this nature out there so look for one, if you’re interested.

9 Pass Through a Graveyard

Someone could break bad luck by passing through a graveyard on a full moon. Ideally, the graveyard should have two entrances, allowing you to pass through one side and out the other. If that’s not possible, then walk the perimeter of the graveyard in a full circle and pass through the entrance once again. Make sure you can legally enter that graveyard after dark.

10 Destroy the Source

Curses often have some sort of physical component to it. Breaking the physical vessel of the spell may break the spell itself. “May” being the operative word here. Some casters are clever and set up security measures for this sort of thing.

Additionally, some spells are cast in the spiritual realms or use spirits to do the dirty work. A trip to the astral may be needed in order to break the spell, if that’s the case.

11 Blessing Upon You

A simple way to counter a curse is to seek out a blessing. Find a clergy member of any religion capable of giving a blessing and go through the steps needed to cleanse yourself and be blessed in the name of the appropriate entity.

Invoking the name of an entity or deity often works just as well as a full blessing.

12 Through Fire

Take a fresh picture of yourself and print it out. On the back, write down the symptoms and bad crap that keeps happening to you. Cast this into a flame, let the picture burn completely, and dose the fire. You could say something like “as this fire burns, so does the one who curses me” or “as this fire dies, so does my curse.”

13 Spin around three times and spit

This is an old one but is so commonplace. Plus, it’s the easiest one by far.

 

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of ways to break curses and the above are just a select few. It’s best to arm yourself with a few techniques so you can handle any type of curse or negativity thrown your way.

This is a great little tome to pick up if you’re into aromatherapy and have a magical or spiritual practice. I can’t vouch for every single aromatherapy usage but I was impressed with the book and the few flaws I found probably won’t bother most people. But the flaws are there.

The recipes are useful and plentiful and the discussions are worth reading. Basics of aromatherapy are also covered so you don’t need to be an expert to read the book. Worth checking out and worth buying if you’re interested in the subject.

Love By the Moon Spell [Spell Saturday #18]

On a night where the moon is particularly bright or beautiful, hold a bowl or glass of water so the moon is reflected in the surface of the water. The water and bowl/glass should be clean and drinkable.

Now, while the reflection of the moon is in your hands,

“Under the light of this moon, I call to one who can love me

One who be honest and true, someone who will love me with their free heart

Look upon this moon and hear my call

Come to me and let us meet soon

By the light of the next full moon.”

Now drink the water completely.

Notes:

You don’t have to be outside for this to work. A window will work just as well.

This spell is NOT designed for a specific individual but instead to call a potential love interest that is not entangled in other romantic interests. Someone who is ready and willing to try their hand at a relationship with you.

If you don’t meet anyone new, try it again during the next moon.

Updates abound

So… Been a while, right?

I’ve been very quite on the internet in the last month or so. There’s a reason for this. I’m working on a very complex and involved project known as “Secret Future Plan” (SFP). The project itself is more personal in nature but indirectly affects my work, heavily. It’s been going on for over a year now and that’s just been set up. We’re hoping to kick off SFP by the end of this month. There’s a second phase to SFP that I can’t plan for yet until the first phase is completed, really, so things will still be up in the air for a long while yet. I’m hoping to have everything squared away by autumn and then I’ll release a new post series on SFP.

Anyway, SFP aside, there have been a lot of minor updates happening around This Crooked Crown so I thought I’d summarize them all here for your convenience and such.

  • Readings now sorted by type over on my Etsy and Storenvy shops!
  • Storenvy shop is open again, with new stock & better mirroring with the Etsy shop.
  • Released a new spread Prince Charming in both the Etsy and Storenvy shops. Now’s a really good time for a reading because the turn-around time is short right now.
  • Updated the “Divination Methods” section of the website under Tarot and Oracle Decks. The mini reviews and images are gone and will be, over time, replaced with proper reviews with more images. List also has been updated to accurate reflect current collection.
  • Made little updates across the website, such as to the FAQ and such.
  • I sold out my free online witchcraft primer course. Which is so surprising to me! Thank you, everyone. I plan on re-opening that course in early August!

And here’s a random list of things I’ve been working on in the background:

  • The previously mentioned “Witchcraft 101” course is now named “Fundamentals of Witchcraft”. I’m working on it diligently and hope to have it available by September.
  • Writing lots and lots of posts that you’ll see soon.
  • Sending out my Spirit Walker fiction manuscript to various agents and publishing houses.
  • Writing the second draft of The Sea Witch fiction manuscript.
  • I’m hoping to collect some of my spells and recipes together and forge a book to publish online.
  • Updating tumblr resources since tumblr deleted all the links and slowly moving those articles over to this website for permanent storage. So we won’t lose anything again due to tumblr’s fickle nature.
  • Updating a photos of readings and such so they’re pretty.
  • Sample readings will be soon available to view so you know what to expect from a reading.
  • Saving plants. I’ve started to bring home those sad little plants you see in the clearance areas of stores. With care and attention, I can bring the little guys back to vibrant life.
  • The aforementioned “Secret Future Plan” which consumes my soul on a daily basis. Additionally, my personal life has been rather busy taking care of various ill persons, including myself.

The book read much more like a lifestyle book for most of it rather than a magic or metaphysical book but that’s OK because the metaphysical stuff is there in later chapters. It’s going to be very much a topic book. If you’re interested in this topic, then you’ll likely enjoy the book. If you aren’t, then skip it. You won’t gain much from the book if this isn’t a topic that you’re interested in.

Money Via Spirits Spell [Spell Saturday #17]

Want to see an immediate windfall of money as well as reduce your debts? Maybe you need to talk to your local spirits for aid. This is a rather involved spell but works wonders.

Specifically, the spirits you’ll want to look for are market or commerce spirits so picking a crossroads where businesses are flourishing is absolutely ideal.Spirits that care about money and business are the kind you’re looking for.

You’ll need:

  • Red candle
  • Green candle
  • Black candle
  • Gold or yellow candle
  • Handful of coins
  • Cinnamon, dried
  • Cinquefoil (Five finger grass), dried
  • Basil, dried
  • Nutmeg, dried
  • Orange or citrus zest, dried
  • Dirt from a crossroads that has a spirit presence
  • Lighter or matches

Here’s the spell. Make sure to fill in the appropriate information in the [brackets] such as how quickly you need the money and the minimum amount of money you need.

  1. Go to a nearby crossroads and collect some dirt. You don’t need much.
  2. Grind the herbs and dirt into a fine powder. You do not need much of the powder.
  3. Light the red candle and place the coins around it.
  4. Light black candle (do not light it from the red candle) and acknowledge any debts or bad luck you have. You can acknowledge this verbally or write it down or simply think of the bills and debts you have. You can also think of any upcoming big expenses you wish to avoid.
  5. Now light the gold/ yellow candle and the green candle. Think or acknowledge all the new money you want to come in immediately. Say out loud, think in your head, or envision new probable ways of getting money to you right now. A check from the insurance company, a raise at work, family sending you money, finding money in the wash, etc. You can throw winning the lottery in there but you’re better off also mentioning more common ways of money getting into your hands now.
  6. Blow out the black candle and set aside.
  7. Sprinkle the herbal powder over the remaining lit candles.
  8. Now say the following:

“Spirits of the crossroad

Listen to my plea

Bring me money quickly

Within the next [time-frame] 

Bring me at least [specific minimum amount or enough to pay specific bills]

With this spell and your aid I will succeed

So bring me my money quickly.”

8. Blow out all the candles and dump any remaining powder and dirt back at the crossroads. Leave the coins at the crossroads as a thank you offering.

Notes:

  • Crossroads are something like a watercooler for spirits. While many spirits reside at the crossroads, many are just visitors. And not all spirits are going to be willing to help. Be sure you can end the spell or dismiss any spirit you don’t want near you during this spell.
  • Tealights are the best choice here for candle sizes. It saves time and you don’t waste a whole candle for a five minute spell.
  • You may wish to revise the wording to better accommodate your relationship with your local spirits.

Cleansing Bell

I love bells. I have a lot of them of all different kinds. It’s a thing. I get a new ones every year and I wear them daily.

Bells have been used in magical practices for a long time and, generally speaking, the tone of a ringing bell is used to cleanse a room. I find bells to be more multi-purpose than that so I use them for protection, warnings, summonings… the list goes on. But today we’re talking about cleansing.

There’s a ton of ways to set up a cleansing bell and there’s a lot of rituals out there that can show you how to do this or how to use a bell to cleanse. In various practices, there’s specific steps to using them. But, since I don’t follow any of those practices, I’ll talk about how I use them and how to make one for yourself.

First, get yourself a bell. Any bell will do. For cleansing, it’s the tone and sound of the bell that’s important so pick a bell that sounds good. It should have a tone that is pleasing to the ear to you and yet has a clear tone that radiates energy and light to you.

To test the bell’s sound and energy, close your eyes, take a deep breath and release it. Then ring the bell. Pay attention to how you feel and how it sounds. Do you feel more relaxed? Does the sound make you smile?

The bell can be in any shape, size, color, material, or even come in a set. You could even use cowbells if you want! I recommend Irona Works to buy handmade bells. If you’re more inclined towards DIY you can give this simple clay bell tutorial a whirl.

Once you’ve picked a bell,  it’s time to wash it. Since most bells are made of metal, you can give it a wipe down with some holy, blessed, or magical water. Moon water collected during a full or new moon will work as well. Salt water may also work, depending on the metal type (some metals may have chemical reactions so double check first!)

If your bell cannot be washed, such as in the case of very old bells with beautiful patinas or clay bells, then you might want to try leaving the bell in a place where it can get as much moonlight or sunlight as possible for a full 24-hour period. (Although, if your bell is painted, you may wish to avoid direct sunlight so it doesn’t fade.)

You can also use a blast of energy to overwhelm and reset the bell’s energy. However, this should only be done on days you’re feeling centered and balanced, so you don’t accidentally send out negative energy in the process.

It should be noted that not all bells will need cleansing! I once picked up an antique bell that had the perfect energy. Resetting that bell’s energy would have been a terrible shame. On the other hand, I once was given a bell that had some weird nastiness to it and it needed resetting and cleansing three times before I was happy with it. It will really depend on the bell and you to determine what’s best.

Now that the bell’s cleansed and reset, it’s time to get cozy with it. On a day that you’re in a good mood and at peace, sit with the bell nearby you. You can do anything you want during that time, but the bell should be within reach. Just sitting near it will give the bell your energy. You can also meditate with the bell and focus on passing on peace and serenity. (Or whatever you want your home to feel like when cleansed).

Time for cleansing! Now walk around the space you want to cleanse and ring the bell! That’s all you need to do. You can walk in a particular direction, such as clockwise, to invoke certain energies or counter clock-wise if you want to banish energies. (Or you can walk in the pattern of a sigil or any direction you want.) I recommend cracking a window or door just a bit so any entities that want to flee can do so.

You can say anything you want during this time or add anything to the cleansing. I like to put on a fun playlist that embodies the energy I want in my home. I sometimes cleanse the space with incense and follow up with the bell. But sometimes I just pick up a bell and ring it.

That’s it. That’s all there is to bell cleansing. This is a great technique for your repertoire and can work beautifully for stealth practitioners or someone who wants to always have a cleansing method on-hand. Besides, it’s always fun to pull out a little bell from wherever and give it a ring.

Attract Affection & Romance Spell Jar [Spell Saturday #16]

This jar spell is meant to attract affection and/or romance. It can be used to bring willing romantic partners to you or encourage new friends or better family relations. The best part of this jar spell? It can sit right out in the open and, depending on the ingredients, can be a long-term sustained spell.

What you’ll need:

  • A jar, bottle, or some other clear container that can seal (A mason jar, pickle jar, water bottle, etc.)
  • Herbs & ingredients for your purpose (see below)
  • Key items you associate with your purpose (A friendship bracelet to rekindle a friendship long past, a business card from a place you’d like to hang out in with your new friends, a rose for romance, photo of your family to boost happy home spells, quartz for more power, etc)
  • Key ingredients for what you want to happen (Coffee so you go out on coffee dates, coaster from a club you’d like to go to with new friends, etc.)
  • Filler such as sand, corn flour, ashes, saw dust, sugar, etc. (optional)
  • Funnel for pouring ingredients (optional)

Herbs and ingredients to use will depend largely on your personal practice and paradigm. Select items that has some sort of folkloric meaning akin to your purpose or that item reminds you of friendship or love.

Here’s a short list for romance:

  • chocolate or cocoa
  • roses
  • apples
  • carnations
  • aster
  • jasmine

A short list for friendship:

  • buttercups
  • lilacs
  • vanilla
  • oranges
  • tea
  • daisies

Filler ingredients are good for people who want a full-looking jar and don’t have enough ingredients to add to the jar or want to hide ingredients from view. I’d recommend picking a filler that means something to you. I’d pick sand, for example, but you might pick campfire ash so you can find camping buddies, or sugar to sweeten current friendships and find new non-toxic friends.

  1. Cleanse your jar and empower it with your purpose. This mean you can add energy to it, tell it your purpose in a couplet or verbally, or hold the jar and envision the future you want this jar to help you achieve happening now.
  2. Gather all your ingredients together and layer them in the jar however you wish. Be as artful or not as you like. As you add them, you can say either verbally or in your head what you’re adding them to the jar for.
  3. Once you’ve run out of ingredients or you’re happy with the jar, go ahead and close it up.

Notes:

  • This spell will work best if you carefully think about your purpose before casting the spell and use care in picking your ingredients.
  • Many jar spells require shaking to “wake up” or empower the spell. This one doesn’t but you can shake it if you want.
  • You can add ingredients whenever you want but don’t take out an ingredient.
  • If you do, just scrap the whole jar and start again. If your ingredients start to get moldy, toss them, wash the jar out (boiling water, soap and water, salt water, or vinegar in any combination.)
  • When you want the spell to end, just toss the ingredients (don’t bury them) and wash the jar out.
