The Sun’s Invitation [Spell Saturday #67]

This is a very adaptable spell. It’s used to increase the things you want more of in your life. So if you want love, you’ll add that component. If you want money, you add that. It’s used for what you want. Unlike the full moon or sun variations of this spell, this one can be used to invite things you do not currently possess into your life.

That being said, this can be a tricky spell to pull off in some people’s home environments. You need complete darkness on a new moon night.

Ingredients:

  • Items you want to increase in your life
  • Solar Water [see notes]

Collect together items that represents the things you want in your life. You might have a handful of cash, a picture of a college diploma, a love letter written to a dream lover, or anything else. Think creatively and simply. If you want to travel to Aruba, put in a picture of Aruba. Don’t make things hard for yourself by trying to collect the perfect representations. If you can’t get a visual, write or draw it.

Once you have together your items, take them and place them on a table next to a window where there is sunlight all day long. If your space is secure, put it outside on a balcony or in your yard. Or take it to the park or beach with you. You want as much light as possible to sit on these items.

Be smart about this. Don’t leave a wad of cash on your windowsill and expect it to not get stolen if you live on the ground floor and leave the window open. Be as discreet as possible with your items but don’t cover them up. If something will become faded by the sun and you still want to keep it, take a picture of it and use that instead.

Place a drop of solar water on each item then leave them there all day long. You can leave the items untouched for a full 24 hour period or you can take the items away immediately. You may wish to avoid spending any money used in this spell until after the full moon.

You can repeat this spell as often as you like.

Notes:

  • Solar water recipe is to gather water on a bright sunny day from a sunny location. A good example would be to collect water from a river on a sunny day. A more reasonable alternative is to pour tap or filtered water into a jar and leave that in the sun for a full day (sunrise to sunset).
  • If you’re charging water, crystals, or anything else by the moon’s light, do this in a separate location than this spell.
  • If something is water sensitive, you can just dab the water on your finger and run it along the least sensitive surface and wipe it off. Or dampen a cloth with the solar water and wash the item that way.
  • We avoid putting the items in a bag or container so the lack of sunlight can touch them. A good middle ground is a big glass mason jar.

Happy casting!

Star of the Apple’s Heart Faerie Love Spell [Spell Saturday #66]

Apples are one of the most ubiquitous fruits in magic and folklore. I mean, it’s an apple. I can say, with fair confidence, that apples can be used in just about any type of spell.

This one is a love spell, designed to ask for a lover to be brought to you by the faeries. I can literally hear some of you screaming “no!” at why this might be a bad idea. Typically and traditionally speaking, faeries aren’t likely to bring you anything but mischief and trouble. When they help, they take something in return. It’s extremely rare to run into a faerie story where the human is gifted something by the faeries for nothing.

However, if one is on good terms with faeries or if one is willing to take a risk, the love a faerie might bring you in exchange for your offering could be fantastic. You may meet a physical lover, a charming new neighbor or co-worker to fall in love with. You might have a passionate affair. Or, you may be offered a spirit lover, such as the faerie themselves or some other spirit.

Remember to read the notes at the end for more details.

What you’ll need:

  • Two fresh, sweet red apple, washed and shined
  • A great offering to the faeries (suggestions here)
  • A place where you can leave your offerings to the faeries
  • A knife to cut the an apple with

First, select your offerings. This step is the most important and requires the most prep. Pick natural containers to store your offerings. So if you’re pouring milk, pour it into a quickly compost-friendly bowl or cup. Or you can pour the liquid into the shell of a piece of fruit.

Next, secure the place where you’re going to cast the spell. As tempted as you might be to cast this spell at your altar or work space, it’s better to go to the faeries themselves. Find a place that feels most connected to the fae and ensure you won’t be disturbed for at least half an hour.

Now, set up your offering. You can leave the offering at the base of a tree or on a fallen log. Or you can leave it along the shore or on a rock. When you’re happy with the set up, put one of the apples in front of or in a prominent place in the offerings and say,

“Spirits of this place,

Faeries of this glen,

I bring to you an offering.

In return, I ask of you a boon,

Bring to me a lover new.

One who is fair, loyal, and kind.

One who will endeavor not to harm or hide.”

Pick up the second apple and say,

“With this apple, I cast a spell,

Using the boon of the faeries

And the blessing of the stars.

One half for me and the other for my love.”

Now cut the apple in half so the center is visible. Hold the apple halves up so the light of the stars or sun, respectively, can shine on it for a moment.

“I take this spell into myself and offer a gift,

Bring to me the one who will accept my kiss.”

Then kiss one half of the apple and bite into the other half. Leave the kissed half of the apple by the faerie offering and eat the other half of the apple. Then take your leave of that place for now. You should soon find yourself the center of romantic attention from someone, if you offering was accepted.

Accept the lover offered to you. The way this spell is designed is that you can mark out the type of behavior this lover demonstrates. Unlike other “describe your future lover” spells, this isn’t to bring you someone who fits a long list of ideals but rather the kind of behavior you will find acceptable and tolerable in your relationship. This lover probably won’t be someone that you would normally date or normally meet. If you reject the lover offered, then there’s no way of knowing how the faerie will respond. They may bring you a different choice or they may be offended that you rejected their offering.

Notes:

  • I recommend overdoing the offering rather than try to match or undersell it.
  • To create a fruit skin to put your offerings in is simple. First, pick a large, thickly or solid skinned fruit. Cut the fruit in half and scoop out the flesh of the fruit. Wash the skin and set in the sun to dry if you’re not going to make your offering immediately but do make the offering in the next few days. Toss any skins that begin to become crumbly or soft. Mango and avocado skins are particularly good choices but similar fruits or vegetables can be used. You can also simply hollow out a large, dense fruit to make your offering in, like a potato, apple, or watermelon.
  • Change the wording as needed. If you’re working in a desert, you won’t say the word “glen” for example. If you’re looking for something specific in a lover, mention it in the spell. The spell does not have to rhyme. Keep your list of attributes short but make sure you mention the critical things most important to you. You don’t want to give the faerie wiggle room or loopholes on the things that matter. For example, if you want to date a man who will not abuse you in any capacity, make sure to outright say that. It may be something that’s seemingly obvious in other love spells but you want to cover all the bases here.

By the Luck of the Moon [Spell Saturday #65]

The Moon is often associated with love, death, and other things. It isn’t often associate with money. The Sun tends to take that claim. This is especially true when it comes to gambling and games of chance.

Here is a spell that is designed to grant you a boost of luck using the moon’s power. It’s a spell that’s useful only when the moon is visible and will work better when the moon is waxing or full. Avoid this spell during the waning or new moon.

What you’ll need:

  • Moonwater

Before you go out or attempt a game of chance, wash your hands in moonwater made during a full moon’s night. Allow to air dry.

Now step outside where you can see the moon and hold out your hands. Say the following,

Moon above,

Shining star’s reflection

Grant to me your blessing

My hands will on this night,

Bring luck to my side.”

The spell will last until sunrise.

Notes:

  • This spell is ideal for when you’re playing games of chance with your hands, such as cards, dice, or slot machines. It’s less useful for gambling such as the lottery or racing.
  • Washing your hands may disable the spell. It’s been hit or miss with it working as soon as you wash your hands. You can reapply the moonwater and recast the spell but I find that it’s kind of a one hit wonder in this regard. I try to avoid washing my hands while using this spell unless sanitation is required.

Treat Me Better Spell [Spell Saturday #64]

We’ve all had people treat us like shit sometimes. Maybe you have a friend that doesn’t understand that sometimes they go too far with the jokes or they use you as a doormat. Maybe they always go on and on about their problems but aren’t they for you all the time. They’re not bad people and they’re not necessarily a bad friend, they just don’t think of how they’re treating you.

This spell is designed to encourage them to treat you better. This isn’t going to make them see the error of their ways though. It’s not designed as an “eye opener” spell but rather just a spell to make someone treat you nicer.

What you’ll need:

  • Sugar for sweetness
  • Hydrangea petals to ego boosting and sweetness
  • Meadowsweet for happiness
  • Apple blossom for happiness
  • Calendula for happiness
  • Gardenia for friendship
  • Rue to work against jealousy
  • Snapdragons to work against lies and deception
  • Heliotrope for friendly words
  • Clover for luck
  • Bottle or bag to carry with you

Gather all of your herbal ingredients and place them in a bowl in direct sunlight for about an hour. Then take the herbs inside and pour the sugar on top of the herbs. You don’t need to cover the herbs but you should be able to see the sugar throughout.

Place your hand lightly on top of the herbs and say,

“Sweetness you’ll become

When in the presence of this mixture

If there’s someone specific you want to make treat you better, say the following (or something like it). If you’re just trying to make people in general around you treat you better, skip the ahead.

“Treat me as I desire

I encourage you to try

To be better and kind.

Treat me better,

Treat me kind,

By this spell and power mine.”

No matter which version of the spell you’re doing, place the herbs and sugar in a bag or bottle and carry it with you.

Notes:

  • Use substitutes for the above herbs as needed. I gave the reasons I selected those herbs so feel free to swap them out as needed.
  • Remember to change up the wording as it suits your needs
  • You can absolutely use a plastic container or ziploc bag for spells. Plastic will not hurt your spells, as far as I’ve experienced. A tic-tac container or similarly shaped bottle works well.

Poppet Healing Spell [Spell Saturday #63]

I was glancing through my healing spell section (which, I’ll admit, is lacking) and discovered I never posted a healing spell using a poppet. Which is super weird because healing poppets are my go-to for chronic illnesses and I like to think I specialize in poppet based magic. Plus, poppet healing spells are fairly universal worldwide and historic.

Let’s fix that today. Here’s a healing spell that can be used for any type of healing. Adapt the wording as you please to better accommodate your needs. You’ll need to make a poppet before using this spell so head over here for instructions to sew a poppet. Or you can check the notes for other poppet alternatives besides sewing.

What you’ll need:

  • A pre-made poppet with a healing focus
  • Two white candles
  • A glass of water

Place the two candles between and slightly above the poppet. Place the poppet in front of you and the glass of water below it, so that the water is closest to you. Take a moment to rest your mind, center yourself, and banish errant thoughts as much as possible.

Raise your energy, focusing on putting it into your hands. If energy manipulation isn’t your thing, raise power any way you can (chant, dance, meditation, etc).

Place your hand on the poppet and say,

“Poppet before me

I name you [target’s name]

What I do to you, I do to them

You are one in the same

Until this spell ends.”

Now this poppet can be used for any sort of spell on your target. You can keep this poppet so that you can cast healing or protection spells on the target several years down the line if you want to. Check out the notes for a way to end this spell.

It’s time to start the healing spell. Light the candles and gather the energy back into your hands, in case it’s waned. Place your hands over the afflicted area. If it’s not known, focus on the core of the body, especially the chest. Push the energy into the poppet, if you can. Focus on the person being healthy and happy. Envision this or speak your intent in your mind or aloud.

When you’ve established a clear image (whether mentally or verbally) of what you want, say the following

“I cleanse the sickness from [target’s name]

I gather it all and pull it free

Trendrils of illness and lingering pain,

I remove it from [target’s name]’s veins

I pull all sickness and pull it free.”

Put at least one finger into the water, keeping your other hand on or above the poppet. Finish the spell by saying the following,

“I pass it all,

All the pain and sickness

Into this water that helped birth us all.

Absorb and cleanse the sickness [target’s name]

And disperse as soon as this water touches the earth.”

Continue to hold you want in this manner until you’re too tired to continue or you feel like the spell’s done. Then, immediate carry the water outside and dump in a patch of soil. Blow out the candles, cleanse the glass (or get rid of it), and put the doll somewhere for safekeeping.

Notes:

  • Poppet alternatives can be anything. You can use any humanoid shaped object (paper, a video game character like from The Sims, candle, carved from a root, etc) or you can pick something that’s representative like an animal figure or an object that is a good representation of them.
  • Healing focus refers to what the poppet’s stuff with. Healing herbs are an obvious choice. Select healing or light colors for the material. You can also stuff it with stuff that reminds the target of good, healthy times or photos of when they were in great health.
  • Regular water from your tap is fine here. You can also use purified water or enchanted or bless water. Caster’s choice but I recommend tap water or collected water from a lake, pond, river, stream, or ocean.
  • Use a cup or glass that can be washed and cleansed or otherwise disposed of.
  • Tealight candles are really good for a single use spell. If you’re going to use this spell over a long length of time, upgrade your candles to votives, tapers, or pillars so you can use the same candles for each repetition of the spell.
  • Use fire safety!
  • To end the connection of the poppet to your target, place your hand over the poppet and say, “Your job is done, thank you for all you’ve done. I end this spell. I un-name you now. And I bury you. Thank you for all you’ve done.” Then bury the poppet.

Captured Wind Energy Spell [Spell Saturday #62]

Ever just need a boost of spiritual coffee? Like you’re just looking at your remote control three inches away and it would take a monumental effort to actually reach over and grab it? You’re not really tired physically or mentally but you’re just “ugh”?

Doldrums is a state of listlessness, despondency, slump, or stagnation. It’s also a word used in maritime to refer to a low pressure area near the Equator where the ocean become calm – there are no prevailing or sail-worthy winds. In both usages of the word, there is an implied danger. If you’re too listless, nothing will get done and things pile up (like laundry). If you’re sailing and there’s no winds, you’ll die.

Being the sea-oriented witch, I created a spell that can break doldrums of all kinds.

What you’ll need:

  • A windy day when you have good energy
  • A cord such as a piece of ribbon, string, rope, etc.
  • A mood boosting drink like coffee, tea or an energy drink

Select your cord. It can be as long or as short as you’d like but you’ll nee to be able to make three to five knots in it. The number of knots can depend on whatever number feels best. Three’s traditional for a wind knot spell like this but five’s a good number for creating energy and movement. Use whatever number feels best for you.

Take your drink and wash the cord in it. Let the cord dry in the sun.

On a windy, sunny day where you have a lot of energy, take the cord somewhere with a lot of wind and tie knots, “capturing” the powering of the wind in the knots.

As you tie the knots say something like:

My power and might

I capture along with the wind

Be kept still and quiet

Until you’re needed again

Keep the cord safe and stowed away until you need it. When the doldrums hit, untie a knot. You should be able to gain a boost of energy.

Notes:

  • Creating a cord by weaving, braiding, or tying materials together works well to give this spell more power.
  • Wash the cord in whatever energy boosting liquid you like. Coffee’s a good example but it’s entirely personal preference. Wash it in a favorite soda, tea, or whatever else if you prefer.

Love’s Nostalgia Tarot Spell [Spell Saturday #61]

Ever have a lover haunt you? The memories of what could have been and what was just won’t leave you alone? Even if you’ve moved on, you can’t forget them. If you’re serious about moving on, consider this spell.

This spell can be used for relationships with friends, lovers, or even family. It can also be used to recover from missed opportunities or goals you’ve had to let go.

What you’ll need:

  • A Six of Cups tarot card that best represents your relationship with this person
  • An item from that time period, one that you’ll part with.
  • A candle (any color)

Find a Six of Cups tarot card that best represents how you feel about the memories of this relationship. Look carefully at the details and how that card makes you feel. You may wish to seek out the best representation among multiple decks, if applicable.

Pick out a candle for the spell. It can be any color you want. You’ll need to have the candle burn out entirely for the spell a tealight is the best way to go for this spell. Do not to reuse the candle after this spell.

Pick an item from the time period of your memories. It could be a gift from the person to you or it could be a picture of the time together. Or something you wore a lot during that time. It must be a disposable item.

Place the item you have near the candle and put the tarot card beside the candle. Light the candle and touch one hand to the target’s item and the other hand to the to the tarot card. Now concentrate and tell the candle the memories you want to let go of.

If the candle blows out from your breath or any other source during the spell, do not relight it. Once the candle burns out, take the wax remnants and item and bury it. This ceremonially and figuratively creates a burial of these memories.

Notes:

  • This works best if the item is something both of you have touched
  • Remember not to burn yourself when doing this spell. If you get really emotional, push the candle back so you don’t burn yourself.

“Go the Fuck Away” Spell

This isn’t the kind of spell you’d put on someone whom you hate, but maybe someone who’s toxic to you and really just needs to fuck off somewhere else for a while.

What you’ll need:

  • Computer or phone capable of pulling up MapCrunch and Google Maps.
  • A poppet pencil

Create a poppet pencil. Write the name of your target on one side and draw your target’s face and defining aspects on the pencil. If they play basketball, draw a basket ball, for example. Or if they are never seen without their hat, draw their hat.

Load up MapCrunch. Yes, we’re going to find the airport. (Anyone remember that? No? Oh, well) This will give you a random destination to send your target. Not what you’re looking for? Randomize it again. I usually don’t care where my target goes so long as it’s nowhere near me.

You can also pick a place you want to send them. This can be fun and creative. If you want someone to go far away and they hate cold weather, send them somewhere cold. Or maybe you just want them to leave the country. Whatever the reason, pick a place.

Now, pull up where they live. I use Google maps in a different web browser tab for this. If you have their address, great, otherwise, just narrow it down to the city or region they’re from.

Map out their trip. If you’re dedicated, pick a less-than-pleasant route. Once the trip is planned out, take the poppet pencil and follow the route from their house to the destination.

While you do this, chant:

"[Name] I see you here and I want you gone.
Take a trip, take a journey,
Take a boat, car, or plane,
I don't care,
Just get the fuck over there."

When done, take the poppet pencil to the nearest crossroads, bus terminal, airport, or train station. Leave it there, chuck it the middle finger, and walk away.

Notes:

  • The more popular the destination, the more likely the spell will work. As much fun as it would be to send them to the back roads of Russia, chances are you aren’t going to dedicate enough magic to the spell to actually get them there. Picking a major tourist destination is a better choice.

Does this spell seem familiar? A variation of it can be found to help you achieve your travel goals here. Originally this spell was posted here on tumblr.

Fire’s Vessel [Spell Saturday #60]

This is a spell and ritual to invite the energy of fire into yourself, at the cost of pushing down your connection to other elements. This can be used temporarily or repeated for a more long-term effect.

You might cast this spell as part of a summer solstice or fire-based festival. Or you might do it to gain motivation and keep procrastination at bay. Or you might cast it to gain confidence, courage, and a bit of recklessness. Why you’d do this is up to you.

What happens to the other elements? They’re suppressed a bit so other aspects of your personality and magic might not be as strong during the duration of the spell. This is why the spell has a time duration built in, to avoid long-term or weird side effects.

Fire's Vessel by This Crooked Crown

What you’ll need:

  • A live flame from a candle, fireplace, bonfire, etc.
  • Representation of wind/air
  • Representation of water
  • Representation of Earth

At sunrise, light your fire. Set up the element representations around you in a circle. You should be sitting or standing in front of the fire.

Meditation or simply sit quietly thinking about the elements and how you interact with them. Once you think you’re ready or you find your thoughts drifting away entirely or you have nothing else to think about, get ready to begin.

Take a deep breath and say,

“As the sun rises, I become the vessel of fire

I am fire

Free, brave, and wild

I am fire

Bold, strong, and true.”

Now push aside the elemental representations of air, water, and earth.

“Beneath my skin, air, water, and earth will live

But my blood will be fire

Until the sun sets in the my sky.”

Pass your hand from east to west.

“As the moon rises, my fire will bank

My elements will reset.”

You can now blow out the candle and put it aside for solar worship, fire element representation, or to repeat the spell.

Notes:

  • While this spell is written for the classical four element believe, it is completely adaptable to whatever element system you use (assuming you use fire and need the spell at all).
  • Use whatever representations for the elements that you like. Air might be a feather or an empty glass. Water might be a glass of water or collected tears. Earth may be garden soil or stones. You get the idea.

Study Buddy [Spell Saturday #58]

Want to find a study group or study buddy for your classes? Need to cram for an exam and want someone to help? Just need a pal to commiserate with? This spell’s for you.

Study Buddy Spell by This Crooked Crown

What you’ll need:

  • rosemary
  • water

Bring about a cup of water to a boil. Add about a teaspoon of rosemary and leave for twenty or more minutes. Strain the rosemary from the water, keeping the water.

Dab the rosemary infused water on the cover of your books, backpack, clothing, or skin before heading to class or study hall. You can say something like:

“Study buddy, come to me

We’ll share what we know

To pass our classes/exams successfully”

Each batch should only be kept for up to 48 hours for health and safety reasons (don’t put moldy water on yourself, please) so be ready to make a new batch as needed.

You can also adjust the spell to work on specific people. A good choice for this is to use a candle, your textbooks, or class facebook group as a summoning focus. Sprinkle a drop or two of the water over the candle, book, or screen and cast the spell the same.

Notes:

  • Be sure that you’re not allergic or sensitive to rosemary before use if you use it on your body. You may also want to check if rosemary clashes with any medications you’re taking.
  • You can add sugar or honey to the infused mixture to “sweeten and draw people to you” but you risk increased insect activity.
  • You can also add coffee to the infused mixture to add speed to the spell.
